Don't hold your breath, Verizon is very slow at this kind of stuff.

Re: XV6800 official ROM Update? any rumors?

I second what Geckotek said but I'm banking on Verizon's greed to speed things up a bit.
One of their biggest money makers is VZNav which you rent either monthly or daily. My guess is they will release a rom update that enables the GPS so they can rent you VZNav without telling anyone you could just run Garmin, Google or TomTom if you wanted!

Re: XV6800 official ROM Update? any rumors?

I went back and forth with UTStarcom yesterday, since my XV6800 has serious bluetooth issues with the car I bought on Monday. Anyway, after about the 10th time back and forth with UTStarcom yesterday, I received the following response about 10 minutes ago, which specifically pertains to the XV6800:
Quote:
Thank you for contacting UTStarcom...

There is going to be a MR for the XV6800 Second quarter This update will include:
1) Windows 6.1 (whole new OS)
2) EVDO Rev A support
3) Location Based Services support.
4) Bluetooth functionality

The update should be released Late June or early July but, unfortunately we don't have a projected release date as of yet.

Thank you for contacting UTStarcom Tech Support.

In verizon terms....july means july 2009. I doubt verizon will ever release an update. I mean look how long it took just to release the phone itself!

Flash a DCD ROM and updated radio and you'll have Windows Mobile 6.1 and also Rev A speeds!

Re: XV6800 official ROM Update? any rumors?

Oddly, this is the 2nd time I have seen that date tossed around for a xv6800 upgrade.

I already hacked my phone to get 6.1 and GPS, but it would be interesting to see what Verizon releases.

Not going to hold my breath

Actually, I think this goes along with the same time frame (6-8 months) as when they released AKU3 after the XV6700 came out.

The question is whether an official release of 6.1 would correct bluetooth issues that many are blaming on Microsoft in WM6. You should see the XV6800 compatibility list for in-car bluetooth systems. It's really a joke right now, as the list contains about half the auto manufacturers currently selling vehicles in the US.

6.1 is not a whole new operating system. a 'minor' update of WM 6, in the words of all-mighty Wikipedia. just to clear that up.

Re: XV6800 official ROM Update? any rumors?

I upgraded the verizon xv6800 rom to windows mobile 6.1, and now my ringer or vibrate will spontaneously default to no ring without warning. Tech support has no clue. I can't figure out if it is an application that triggers it. It would have to be one that runs in the background.
Would appreciate any suggestions. I have found that Sprite backup will allow you to restore all applications, but must make sure you are running the latest version before backing up to restore to Windows Mobile 6.1.
