Upgrade to 3.16 Fails

You don't HAVE to run the unlocker. I've been able to upgrade to 3.16 without the unlocker several times.

Any explanation? Every thread says that unlocker has to be run. Not wanting to run the unlocker is why I haven't flashed 3.16.

The unlocker is just for custom roms. The 3.16 one direct from sprint (not one of the modified ones) installs without needing to unlock.

However, this was before Olipro created the 2.40 hard-SPL. You can now flash the "leaked" 3.16 package either with a locked original stock Sprint bootloader, a re-locked bootloader, or the Olipro 2.40 hard-SPL.

Without unlocking your PPC, you can't flash un-official roms! (if your PPC is unlocked allready )
If you flash any un-official roms without unlocking you PPC you will and should stuck in boot menu screen!
I had same problem, i flashed without reading tutorials and result was stuck in boot screen!
Then professional members told me to unlock you PPC, after that i successful updated my PPC!

When they say "Un-Official", they mean the DCD and no2chem ROMs. Not the one that was designed by Sprint that doesn't require an unlocker.

You should probably be saying "you can't flash to un-signed roms" If I understand everything correctly (and I think I do) if you are using the leaked Sprint 3.16 ROM, it is signed and therefore should not need the unlocker on a Sprint phone.

On my Verizon phone, I used the Olipro 2.4 and it worked like a charm. Didn't try w/o it so can't say for sure.

What's with the fear of the unlocker? You can always relock. Everything done here is reversible. But fear you not, young padawan. For in your favor the force is. (LOL at own dorkiness)
