So i update to DCD's 2.3 rom and i get terrible ram..
I soft reset with about 15m of ram availible...and i normally have 7-8...i have only ultimate launcher installed and htc home...thats pretty much it..
whats causing hte problem?

HTC Home is RAM hog.
A CLEAN install of DCD's 2.3 ROM should give you approximately 23MB free after a soft reset.

I recently moved away from HTC Home because of it has a memory leak. Since you use ultimate launcher, you might consider using Battery Status to provide a clock that looks identical (if not better) than the HTC version. Take a look at my current setup with Weather Panel (Phat Finger I theme), Battery Status (modified Big theme), and of course Ultimate Launcher.
With all three of these running at boot, I have around 22mb free at boot with DCD's 1.7.0 based ROM.  Read through the thread below for lots of HTC like skins for Battery Status. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350510

Try SPB Pocket Plus or SPB Phone Suite. I use Plus and love it.

Follow Stroths suggestion. UL with Battery Status is sweet. I am using 2.3.1 and i have 18-20 at boot up.

I use HTC Home and I have around 24 megs at startup, and after a full day i stay around 21....
Edit: I use DCD's 2.3.2 kitchen and kook my own roms..... I have around 30 apps in my rom. i also just put the HTC home Customizer in the rom. I'll post pics when I get back from the gym.... Last edited by azclown; 03-03-2008 at 01:28 PM. Reason: Add more info....

I personally love HTC Home. If I'm going to replace it, I'm not willing to pay for anything yet.
What free alternatives do you guy suggest? The features I use the most are the time, weather, and the launcher tabs and the message views .

i did a hard reset and i still only get 18 at start up and it just drops from there...i have sk toolsinstalled andthats it.
whats wrong? virus?
