Trouble with input field in 6.1 threaded SMS

I used to have the nagging problem after upgrading to earlier builds of 6.1 (nueROM) that occasionally the input field in the threaded SMS would suddenly shrink to half-height and not scroll, either, making the second, third, and so-on lines invisible. I'd have to soft-reset to clear it up. It was uncommon enough not to be a big deal, though.

Since updating to the newest version, though (5049), I've noticed it not only more frequently, but it's surviving soft resets, as well.

Does anyone know what causes this and what can fix it?

I concur with this problem and would love to find out a fix. I haven't noticed soft-reset fixes it, but will pay closer attention to it.

Re: Trouble with input field in 6.1 threaded SMS

what I have had to do is just delete some of my replies and then I am able to see what I am entering in the text field, so I keep the conversation and see what the other person has wrote but just remove what I wrote and then it works fine, but I know thats not a fix but something to try until someone has a fix.

Re: Trouble with input field in 6.1 threaded SMS

Unfortunately none of these solutions is much of one. If opening and closing my keyboard were enough to fix it, it wouldn't even be worth complaining about. That doesn't do it for me. And as for deleting my replies, well why do I even have threaded SMS at that point?

Thanks so far, though. Hopefully somebody finds something.

Re: Trouble with input field in 6.1 threaded SMS

Woo Hoo! A fix has presented itself! Actually, Ayerthon with help from Popamopps over at XDA has posted this fix. It makes the input area in threaded SMS taller! So that even if you have the height issue, it's still plenty tall enough to see what you're typing. Even without having to toggle the soft input panel!

The part I love best is that you can actually see 2 or more lines worth of text. Not sure if it does anything for the scrolling issue some people have been having.

Go to Windows, find the threaded_sms.htm file. You can either edit it on your phone with notepad, or total commander.

Look down through the file for this line....

<Inbox:content id="COMPOSESUBJECT" width="98%" height=35 spell focus count links noclearonbackpresshold limit=0 autocap inserttab scroll />

I changed the height from 35 to 60, which is more than enough when you've gotten used to only being able to see the very top of typed text for so long.

Full credit on this goes over Ayerthon & Popamopps over at XDA.

TurboFool: He didn't mean the slide-out keyboard, but the on-screen keyboard (in between "Send" and "Menu"). When you click on it to pop up the on-screen keyboard, the messaging app resizes the window to the correct height.
