alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

Hello,

I've created a replacement rilphone.dll that no longer flashes the blinking green led that you have a signal. You can find it at http://www.weienterprises.com/nue , it must be installed to ROM.

I have not decided whether to implement this into my ROM, as I have no idea if most people prefer this.

Stroths has made a cab version of this, so if you would rather not cook a new rom, see http://forum2.ppcgeeks.com/showthrea...222#post188222

Does it affect any other function of the LED?

nope, you actually can use that msg led for something else now.... the patched radio driver simply doesn't tell it to flash now when it gets a signal.

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

I don't know how you do it, but you do it. Going to give it a shot now. I am chuckling on how simple of a fix this is compared to making a program as a workaround.

You have my vote to include it in future releases unless a .cab version is an option.

One vote for yes!

I don't think anybody likes a constantly blinking led for no reason.

please please please include it - maybe include the original as a .bak or something

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

I tip my hat to you no2chem. I built this into a custom ROM per your instructions and it works perfectly. Vibrate still works, notifications blink as they should, charge light works correctly, but no service LED.

For those of you that have used LED Killer, this gives you a similar solution, but better because no 3rd party program is needed to run in the background. In addition, there are no stray LED flashes or charging LED issues that some have experienced with LED Killer.

I would highly suggest you all use this method over LED Killer as this method is much cleaner. My way was more of a band-aid fix until someone figured it out.

What about the blinking bluetooth light? I stream music over my car stereo and that thing just blinks away. Could we get a fix for this?

Thanks

And another vote for in the rom. I do use LED killer but would rather not waste resources.

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

I personally use LEDKiller 3.1

I recommend implementing your LED killer into your future roms for service notification only for now as I prefer BT notification so it does not drain my battery if accidently left on.

In addition, is it possible to attach some type of on/off/settings app within Start-->Settings?

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

+1 YES Green LED
+1 YES Blue LED

Ideally, it would be great if it could be something that could be toggled, but I'd take a "permanent" solution - you bet. You rock!

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

Can anyone please give me detailed instructions on how to install this .dll

I have never really dont that before, and it would be greatly appreciated. I am running the stock pre-GPS sprint ROM. Thanks in advance!

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

wow amazing work sir. i saw mention of whether or not this could be cabbed. Can this be done? I have not yet migrated over to custom roms. How can us 'stock and beta' rom users take advantage of this?

TurboFool 02-20-2008 01:10 PM

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

Wonderful. Please implement it in your ROMs. I haven't yet had the time to delve into the world of troubleshooting buildos errors, so I'm relying so far on your stock ROMs. I'd love to have this built in instead of using LED Killer.

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

no2chem you will get lot of yes for this since the subject is led killer, one who isn't interest won't check out this topic. As for me, I vote 'no' I do look at led for indication.

awesome work no2chem...
i have yet to get my phone unlocked to install your roms, but am hoping to get a chance this weekend, it kept givin me guff when i tried...so i gave it a rest...

anyways, do you think it will be at all possible to have both battery and led made into a cab? or even a way to have you just flash the 2 files on top of what ever rom we may already have installed?

initial 02-20-2008 02:53 PM

Re: alternative to LED killer - replacement rilphone.dll

Nice idea but I would prefer to have the option of turning it off and on. If that's not possible, maybe include 2 versions of your next ROM release?

stroths 02-20-2008 03:27 PM

Clarification on what this actually does

Just to clarify to everyone, this patched dll does not have any effect on the orange flashing notifications LED. It ONLY stops the flashing green LED that flashes all the time when you have service. Your orange light will still flash for notifications if you have it setup that way, your bluetooth blue LED will still flash, your wifi LED will still flash if turned on and the orange LED will stay on if you have it plugged in to a power source.

What which LEDs does this currently affect?

Service LED = YES
Notifications = NO
WiFi = NO
Bluetooth = NO
Charging = NO

For those familiar with LED Killer, this patched DLL has the same end result but does it in a much better way. The only advantage to my LED Killer is that it can easily be disabled.

I guess that I will be the only one voting against the people that hate LED's. Every phone that I have ever had has had a blinking LED and I like it. How else will I know if my phone is on??? (no that is not a joke.) That is how I know if my phone is on or if I have run out of battery.

well, the only way to make everyone happy is to make a led intermediate driver.....whether i feel like doing that is another question...

Is there anyway to install this on a "production" phone, or can I only do it with the kitchen?

Cabbed Version Here

1 Attachment(s)
Here is a cabbed version I created from no2chem's excellent work.

Install Instructions
1. Install no2chem 6800 Service LED Driver_c.cab
2. It will prompt you to reboot. After a reboot it should be working for you.

If you uninstall it will go back to normal.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! The .cab worked fine on the stock sprint rom and that damn green LED is now dead. Now only if we could get that blue tooth LED off as well. THANK YOU GUYS!

Thanks for the .cab file.....How much trouble would it be to turn the battery.dll into a cab too? I tried to install that and can't get it to work. But the LED cab worked.

Is there a way to flash the blue led for signal aswell as it come on during charge instead of the green one?

I would love for this to be added to rom also.

Strange... when I install the CAB my phone stays off and says something about needing a radio to turn on. When I uninstall the phone starts working again.
