I used the DNS fix (with reg change) and noticed an immediate improvement in speed. Also an unintentional side effect..... my out of memory issues with Picsel browser seemed to have gone away for now. Not sure if this is an expected outcome, but the increased speed may have decreased memory cache use and resulted in better memory management with Picsel. Anyone else out there notice this benefit ??

I really don't understand how come the dns server is not working for me.. Everyone seems to get good result, while i can't even connect to any website.

did the reg fix but dns servers cannot resolve the ip addresses for me. Even the "open access" dns servers do not work for me. Is there anything else I can change? It takes my phone like 30 secs to even locate the webpage in PIE. I'll try a different browser and give an update

Have you found a solution to fix the disconnects? I stream a lot of content and this is quite an issue for me.

Also, just like many others here, I've found my "Use Specific Server" Option consistently reverts back to default "Use Server Assigned" on each time I go back and look at it. I'm guessing that it doesn't really default back unless you hit "OK" again with the default still selected. (?)

I'm one of the guys who won't get pages to load with the DNS changes. Clearly a DNS lookup problem, but why it only happens for some and not the others boggles the mind.

I actually did this on the Apache! I think it was the exact reg key, except I changed it to 7... And someone posted info about the DNS servers and I tried that! I thought it was just coincidence, but I guess that the reg tweak works. Great work! Rep added

i'm now getting the occasional lockup while a page is loading in pie. its pretty consistent that every 12th page load is the one that will lock up the phone on me... i'm still observing and btw i only did the regedit not the dns server change. running 3.16...

I went back to Sprint DNS.
Just like when I was using the 4.2.2.x servers on the PC, I had the same problem of the DNS server taking too long to resolve some things and timing out.

For those who can't get there DNS settings to stick go into
file explorer>windows>startup
and delete HTC_CMGuardian.

this will stop your phone reverting back to it's stock settings on soft reset.

So, anyone willing to explain to me what the Timerwheelsize does? i've known for a while that changing your DNS can help your "look up" speed, but never heard of timerwheelsize.

I tried the DNS and registry changes individually and together. This had no noticeable effect. I was not having DNS issues to begin with, so it's not surprising that it made no difference. As for the TimerWheelSize reg edit.... I've seen no explanation of what this change actually does. Nonetheless I gave it a try and ran several bandwidth tests at 5 and 11. My speed was consistently faster at the original setting of 11.

Thank you. Interesting it's been nearly 2 weeks since the original post and no one had mentioned that you have to delete the HTC_CMGuardian for this change to be effective. Granted maybe not everyone will have to do this, but I'm thinking it will be quite a bit of people.
Now that I think about it, perhaps just adding a new connection (rather than editing existing connection) might have worked as well.


Unfortunately, now that I've changed the DNS, no pages will load.
I'm using Colonel's rom flashed 2 weeks ago...and carrier Sprint.

As for the timerwheelsize, I've heard the timerwheel is just a graphic, and changing the size bigger or smaller wouldn't seem to make it load more than a .001 percent difference.

Has anyone tried updating the DNS servers after flashing to the new ROM 3.35? Wondering if it makes any difference or if it will just mess things up and make it so that the connection is no longer RevA?

I thought this wasn't possible at all with evdo.... Are you sure you didnt have wifi enabled and connected?

DNS servers will have no effect on Rev A. Its highly suggested that you change them.

Any way this can be worked into a cab file like the other reg tweaks? If not no biggy but some may not wanna go poke around their registry.

Internet Speed Parms.zip - This is a cab of just the parms file on the first post.

Internet Default Speed Parms.zip - This is a cab of MY default values before doing the reg update. You can use this if you want to go back to the default settings (sort of an uninstall). However, remember that this was my default settings and its possible yours might be different.

I'm using a tilt wit the stock att rom on 3g
btw i can talk on the phone and surf the net so long as im on 3g(not edge)

ok my female friend hotboy...open up the program(phm edit), and navigate through these folders:

HKey Local Machine -> Comm -> Tcpip -> Parms

There is a "key" in there called Timerwheelsize and its default value should be 11. You need to click on this key, and change the value to 5. I am not sure how you do it in your specific program, but i cant imagine it is too hard.
When you are done with that you can close the program.

Then, you want to do this from your regular home screen.
Go to Start, click Settings, hit the connections tab at the bottom, click Connections, then hit Manage existing connections. you will edit the one named Sprint PCS most likely. So click it and then select edit. Click next, then next again. When you see "Advanced" click that. At the bottom you will see "Servers", so click that. Then select "use specific server address" and put in this:
DNS: 4.2.2.1
Alt DNS: 4.2.2.2

I hope that clarified anything you didnt understand.

Went from 1.37MB to 1.67MB. Also seems to have cut down the latency also.

Having the same issue. I think it's the HTC_CMGuardian. With the new ROM it doesn't show up in the Start Up folder so I don't know how to work around it. I believe it's removing the changed DNS entries on the first reset after they're changed.

Perhaps someone can make a MortScript that changes the DNS values (sorry, not too familiar w/ it), then that can be put in \Windows\StartUp. Also, does windows always execute .xml's the way they do w/ User Customization? If so, sounds like that could be put in the StartUp, too.

I found a file HTC_CM_GUARDIAN.exe in /Windows. Think that may be it. You cant delete it though. It has permissions on it.

I created a new connection and left the original one alone.
All of the values are still there when I reset.
It allows you to choose which one you want to be the default.

Can someone confirm. DCD 3.0.0 ROM the default Timerwheelsize is 5. At least it was on mine.
Should I still install the Parms.reg?

NO you don't need to change parms for that. I pmed dcd when I found this mod. He just puts it in his roms now. =)
