Using an External GPS Receiver with 3.16 ROM

I posted this on a few other forums and didn't get much input so I figure I'll try here also. I tried using my Holux 1200 GPS receiver with the 3.16 ROM. It paired up without a problem. I set the outgoing COM port to 0. When I try to set the GPS hardware port to COM0 it keeps reverting back to none. I tried everything I can think of but can't get the hardware port setting to stick. I even tried switching the phone location setting to off, disabling the GPS location function. A few other people told me they also couldn't get the hardware port setting to stick. So I was wondering if this is a bug with the 3.16 ROM, or if there's some kind of conflict with the internal GPS which disables the use of an external receiver. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd rather use my Holux 1200 becasue the internal GPS takes too long to connect for me. I've tried using several of the launchers. I even tried the A-GPS reg edit and it still takes over ten minutes for Google maps to connect to any satellites. Thanks.
