Wow. Great run through and explanations throughout this thread.
Serious props to the OP and everyone who followed up filling in the gaps and answering all the newb questions. Sometimes repeatedly. =D>

Been all through this thread as well as the other flashing sticky'd threads and I am still a little fuzzy on the PRL issue.

Do custom ROMs (i.e. dcd x.x.x for Verizon/ Alltel/ Etc) change the PRLs during the upgrades?
For that matter do the "official" ROMs change that before the customizations or as part of the initial ROM install?

I've scanned the Corolada PRL page and my version (00063) isn't available, so I don't want to take a chance of losing mine. I did check with my carrier and they can't/ won't give it up for a backup.

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

New here, but I have done alot of reading to understand how most of this works. Long story short, I am running the new Alltel ROM with FW 3.37.20 and Radio 3.35

My question is about getting the EPST unlock code using GetSPC. When I run GetSPC with the new Alltel ROM, it gives me the unlock code (based from the HEX ESN). But when I type ##775 or ##778 (to edit) and type in the unlock code - it tells me "Check unlock code failed. Please input again." Doing so comes with the same results. I am running GetSPC from the SD card.

Is this something to do with the fact that it's a newer Alltel ROM and somehow prevents GetSPC from generating the correct code or am I missing something? Thanks!

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

I had the same thing happen on mine and after setting it to run a debug log based on this post-
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=232567

turned out my MSL was actually 000000 and not what GetSPC showed.

Thank you ColdMogul! That was exactly it. It allowed me to go in and edit. Thanks again. Now I'm off to work on cooking up a custom ROM... lol

You can only see the security when you go into the program from EDIT and enter the MSL code you got using the ESN.

On step 1g ( > g. click view info and Security. Write all these settings down.) I do not see the Security option on my phone.

On my phone when I dial ##778# all I see under 'View info' is:

A-KEY
NAM Settings
CDMA Settings
Home SID/Home NID
Modem Settings
PRL
Data Parameters

M.IP Settings
M.IP Default Profile
M.IP Customer Profile1
