Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

Help!!! I have been trying to reflash for days but keep having the same problem. I think I know what I am doing, but maybe I'm missing a step, here's my problem.

I have successfully unlocked my sprint touch (Vogue) and am trying to update to Derek's .9 rom ( have also tried omj's roms with the same results). I have my RUU folder with everything unzipped into it for WM61_107_9.nbh. I even added and ran pagepool changer to get the pagepool to where I want. My next step is to double click on RomUpdateUtility.exe and start the process. I get the intial screens on my computer and get to the point of updating with the progress bar displaying. My phone goes through the tricolor screen showing the 0.40 and then to a screen showing:
Voguimg.nbh
Bootloader
Press power button to start update image

At this point if I do nothing everything halts, so I assume I am suppose to press the power button and if I do I get the following:
Voguimg.nbh - OK
Bootloader - OK
Udate complete
Update success

Now on the computer I get an Error (260) connection and my connection is lost. At this point I have to do a soft reset (reboot) of the phone and I am back to where I started, nothing happened.

I know I am probably missing something really obvious, but I am at a loss.
Help! Please, anyone with any suggestions????

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

I realize this is a noob question but will the phone retain the contacts list? spb backup doesn't seem to be able to just save that information...

Talking Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

Bigel do it! Follow the directions in this thread, they are spot on. It was really simple. I love it. Besides the bugs and the constant problems with google maps and live search... I wouldn't go back to the official Sprint unless I need service. GPS and Rev-A totally worth the hassle.

My 2cents.

My suggestion is you try posting this in the Vogue forum. From what you have said, the procedures and displayed messages are different than they are for the Titan.

Apparently, what you have done is to start flashing something without reading about it first. Radio 3.27 is not compatible with ROM 2.17. Radio 3.27 will only work with ROMs based on the 3.16 pre-release. Find one of those ROMs that you like and flash it. Most of the custom ROMs that are based on 3.16 are not numbered as 3.x, so you will have to read the thread about each custom ROM to determine what official release it uses as a base.

You might want to start your research by reading the first post in this thread that you posted in.

Re: An Easy Guide to Upgrading

Reading this "easy guide" was somewhat helpful, but not exactly on the money in my experiences. I spent the better part of 24 hours trying to figure every thing out and scaring myself several times thinking I bricked my phone. Learning what I know now, it's hard to do that.

Here's what I found out to help people.

There are 3 basic parts on the phone when upgrading a Titan phone.

1) Boot Loader (BL)
2) Radio
3) Operating System (OS)

Don't think of Radio as your car stereo style radio, it's just a term used to define part of the phone's software.

Each OS requires a specific Radio to work correctly, and in turn, both the Radio and the OS need the correct BL to get past the slash screen on your phone.

A "ROM" update can update any 3 of these parts at once. The official updates do all 3 at once. The ones you find off this site and others usually do not. this is where the confusion and trouble starts.

The official roms require the "locked" BL to be installed. Custom OS's usually dictate which Radio needs to be installed, which in turns dictates which BL needs to be installed.

You can always install a Radio or OS through the BL screen on the phone. As been posted in many places, the way to always access the BL screen is to press and HOLD the Camera button and the Power button and then reset the phone.

From here you can install an OS or Radio through the USB cord. You can not install a new Boot Loader through this action. So whatever BL is installed, make sure you install the appropriate Radio and OS for it. Usually I install the Radio then OS.

You can also install a Radio or OS without a USB cord through the SD card. You need a formatted SD card to FAT32 format. Once you have a formatted SD card, you need to get the Radio or OS NBH (.nbh) file to install.

Typically when you download a Radio or OS, the .nbh file is "inside" the executable that runs the install launcher. This can be ripped out with the program WinRAR for windows. To do this, install WinRAR, then right click on the "ROM_install.exe" (it probably won't be called ROM_Install.exe I am just using this name as an example) and select "Extract Files" from the context menu. WinRAR will create a folder and rip out all the files contained in a self extracting/implementing executable. In this folder, you will find the .nbh file you are looking for.

Once found, copy the .nbh file over to the SD card. When it is on the SD card rename the .nbh file to TITAIMG.nbh

By naming it that, the BL screen will recognize it as a file to auto install when you access the BL screen. Once you have the file on the SD card, insert it into the phone, and then access the BL screen. Remember this is done by holding the Camera button and the Power Button at the same time when turning on, or resetting the device.

Custom Boot Loader installations I know can only be done through the USB cord. Every custom bootloader comes with instructions and a BATCH (.bat) file that will give you step by step instructions on what to do to install the BL.

Remember, if you ever get stuck at the "Splash Screen" don't panic. You can always get into the BL screen with the Camera Button and Pwr Button trick and change the Radio or OS as you like.

Side notes: If you ever get error (328, invalid command) when installing a Radio, that means the Radio you are trying to install is already installed. If the install of the Radio is bad, which happens if it partially installs, then the OS you install after it may cause the phone to reset within 5 to 20 seconds after turning getting into the OS. If this happens, look for a different Radio version number to install that still works with the BL you have installed. For some reason you can't reinstall (or at least I have been able to do it as I always get this error) a Radio version of the same version already installed. Example. If I have Radio 3.27 installed, and tried to reinstall 3.27 over it, I'll get this error at 9% of the installation. I have to switch to something like 1.47 or whatever and then back again.

I hope this bit of info helps people when installing custom Operating Systems, Radio's, and Boot Loaders. I didn't post links to all the Boot Loaders, Radio's, and OS's or total ROM's out there. Those links are posted all over this forum and many of them in the original post. I just thought to elaborate on the original post and help clear up confusion others may have that I ran into even after reading the original post or others like it.
