6.1 seems snappier than 6. I guess it includes bug fixes and optimized codes???

AstronusX 02-01-2008 06:49 PM

It is a trade off I guess. WM6.1 get lest memory available as well. 2.17 has 26meg, 3.16 has 24meg, now 6.1 has 22meg available .

Im loving the 6.1 the only thing i dont like about it as of now is the fact there are no smileys like there were in the otehr threaded sms and it doesnt have a counter for the amount of letters i am typing......but like everyone said its great and i thank the community for their great work

Available memory doesn't mean a thing when you don't get out of memory errors anymore... 6.1 manages memory much better than 6.

Is that mean we can load as many app we want now? How is that going to work. Just curious.

Most of the RAM that gets sucked up by the OS is basically cached RAM. If you look under the task manager, an application could be running that takes up 9MB, yet the system shows that 19MB of program memory is in use. If you go and open another up, it reduces the cache and frees up more RAM.

I tested this by getting the phone down really low in memory with Opera (not hard at all), and then launching the camera - the camera didn't complain about too little memory being available and it was able to be used.

I had Live Search with GPS, Opera open with two tabs (Engadget and Gizmodo to be specific), Word open with a letter and I was still able to use all three programs. No slowdown to speak of and Live Search didn't crash due to being out of memory like it did on 6.0.

In fact, I've had no out of memory errors as of yet and I'm not closing all of my apps (though I still close some) or using Oxios like I had to before.
