Doing our part, compiling 3.16 standard Bug List

It seems to me that this new ROM was almost certainly leaked with the knowledge of some/all Sprint or HTC employee Mogul developers in response to our pleas for public beta testing. Maybe it was too complicated to create an official program, with potential legal issues and such, so they just leaked a ROM to test the issues.

Since we asked for this, I think we should do our part. So far, it seems like we have made a less clear effort to do that than with the aborted ~2.16 release. Within a day of that release there were neat concise summary threads with issues listed that were agreed upon by large portions of the community. That might have helped Sprint decide to remove that release, know where to start fixing it, and consider a beta program.

However, I am not sure that the same results are appearing this time. The main discussion seems to be a 40 page thread with infinite conflicting claims of what is and is not working. Already, many users are making different custom versions of the release with different radios and applying other hacks. It might be difficult for anyone to make any sense of all of this, especially if the vast majority of users end up with hacked versions and arent testings what we were probably given to test.

At the moment, I cannot test the new ROM. However, I just wanted to get the point across. If anyone has time and likes getting these leaked ROMs, they should probably try to help document and concisely list the problems. If anyone does not like getting these leaked roms they should probably install the most unique possible hacked version of the ROM, install as many 3rd party apps as possible, remove some of the standard sprint software without being sure what it is, post every problem they encounter once as a new problem with the ROM, and contact Sprint tech support about it.

I don't know if I should be the one to say all this, but I could not find anyone else saying it. I think if we are doing beta testing in some sense, we need to try to stick closer to testing the standard package we are given.

- Marc

What makes you assume there's bugs? Everything works fine and dandy. 100% perfection.

Oh first bug I found, it says "For Testing Purposes Only".

Load it up, this thread is a waste comming from someone who didnt even look at it.

The only thing more wasteful than a "wasteful thread" is the people who post in it sayign "this thread is a waste".

I'll pitch in for one comment real quick:

I seem to drop my data connection a lot more than before, it usually says something like "the remote party has terminated this session". Something along those lines.

I agree with mcoope3...if this was an intentional leak in order to allow Beta testing by users, and we do not have a substantial number of users loading this ROM as it was leaked and posting concise reports of problems, then HTC will probably not give us the opportunity again.

In other words, treat this as a Beta testing opportunity as opposed to a christmas present. Put off your natural desire to play with changing the ROM package and instead play with the ROM package as it was given to us. So far, HTC probably thinks that most in the community were not serious about really wanting to Beta test.

edit: So far, we have one vote for "100% perfection"...you guys want to let that stand and be the message given to HTC developers?

edit2: If this was NOT an intentional leak to allow us to Beta test, maybe if we treat it as one then HTC will see the advantage and give us the Beta testing opportunity next time.

I didn't say the thread was a waste, I said it was a waste comming from somone who didn't even load it. People come to this site with all thier random noob stuff wanting retarded questions answered that have been answered 100 times. Load the rom, play with it and if you find an issue post something. Don't make a post saying "I don't want to load it cause I dont want to be a guinnie pig, but yea everyone else do the work". The rom has been out less than a day, was it leaked on purpose? I doubt it since official is supposed to be monday, doesn't give them much time to put any fixes in.

Either way, find an issue post about the issue, dont just forcast issues so you have something to read. Go contribute, load the damn rom and test it out yourself was the point I was trying to get across.

There are several bugs with this release, cohowap. If you havent used it at all, you have no room to come in here and waste space with your post.

As for the bugs, I have not cornered what causes it, but the device randomly freezes sometimes when the power button is pressed to send the phone into suspend mode. I think it has happened usually after messing with GPS, but that might not be the cause.

As for claiming less than 20 hours after its release that there arent any bugs, yea that is retarded.

Here are the problems I had w/ the test rom

in some area w/ good signals (3+ bars), once i turned the phone part completely off, holding the red phone button for a few seconds and release, it took for ever to find the towner again after i turned it on

in some area w/ not very good signals (1~2 bars), i used another phone to call my mogul #, the calling phone either went into voicemail of my mogul very quickly or took 4 or 5 times longer to get into my mogul's voicemail. In the first case, i didn't see any incoming call on my mogul, in the second case, i saw the incoming call notification popped up and disappeared for a few times while the calling phone was constantly ringing.

regarding GPS, once the screen is turned off by WM6 power save mode, TomTom lost the connection to com4, once i turned it on again, i had to use google map to init the port again. not sure if it's supposed to like that ...

I installed the ROM last night when it first hit the form. The first time I installed it, the software crashed 3x and had to be restarted. I finally got it loaded and then installed it again.

Once the SPL was updated, i restarted the install and it worked fine. I had to program the phone with the correct MSID and MDN so make sure you know those numbers before you flash

It took me three tries to get the phone synched to my Windows Vista computer but it works great now.

The biggest problem I have seen is not being able to get a data connection consistently. I wonder if I need another PRL. Anyone know how to download a fresh one?

Also, it took 10 tries to get the GPS connected to Google Maps. I guess it was trying to download something before it would tell me my location. It is working inside the house too

All in all, I am glad I upgraded. It was scary when the installer software got stuck on the color bars but it finally installed. All I can say is have your settings written down before you install.

Bugs I have encountered:

1) GPS didn't work until hard reset

2) Takes 5-10 minutes to pick up 1x/Ev signal after soft reset.
I reset the info in ##DATA# and changed my vision password to initiate IOTA but it hasn't come through yet. It did pick up a signal within a few seconds but when I try to connect to vision, I now get error 67.

I had skipped the sprint customizations so I didn't have IOTA and that's why it wasn't working. I just took it from the zip someone posted with all of the sprint addons.

Once I installed IOTA, it tried to reprovision but I got error 1012.

Changed my vision password online again to see if it will work when initiated from their end.

Didn't work but once I restored the info in ##DATA# and manually ran IOTA, it worked fine. I can get online and I don't have any issues picking up an EVDO signal after soft reset.

Filing under "Solved" for me at least.
3) No longer can roam on Verizon towers
I took it out in DC today and while I had a great EVDO signal out on the street, as soon as I got into the metro, I went to 1x on Verizon's tower and couldn't get any data. I used to be able to do data roaming on VZW on the metro.

4) Sometimes have to soft reset to get GPS fix
I had GPS working great yesterday. Went to bed. Today when I was out and about I couldn't find any satellites with Gmaps or Live. Soft reset and it worked fine.
5) Initial attempt to use GPS can make phone unresponsive for 3-5 minutes or lock up requiring a soft reset.
Sometimes the first time I use GPS it will freeze up the phone
Will edit with step-by-step of what I try as I go along.

Well I have issues with Microsoft Voice 1.6 command working from the bluetooth earpeice and am currently looking into registry issues. I am impressed with the bluetooth audio quality so far.
