Radio upgrade to 2.13

Ok so call me stupid or dumb or whatever, but I poking around over at the xda's ftp and in the titan folder someone uploaded a radio rom named titan_2.13_cmda.rar so I thought I would give it a try. First off I am running dcd's latest kitchen on my vx6800, works great. well I flashed the radio last night late so I did really play with it at all until today. the strange thing is when you go to flash it it says upgrade to 1.xx well I flashed it anyway. I like to try new things. so upon boot it said radio 2.13. well what I am getting at is WHOLLY CRAP AM I GETTING FAST SPEEDS TODAY. I mean wow. I did some research and I think it might be the newest Vogue radio maybe hacked over to run on the titan. I am not going to post the link to it because I do not want to be be responsible for bricking someones phone. Doesn't the Vogue have rev a and gps if so this could be a huge step forward. Any input would be nice on this issue. Thanks Mike

IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE? BC THe voyage has fewer things then the titan so wudnt that cripple a lot of things?

kyppcgeek 01-17-2008 12:42 PM

Keep us posted.

idenkilla 01-17-2008 12:57 PM

try gps feature and all the features

binny1070 01-17-2008 12:58 PM

Not the Voyage the htc Vogue anyway everything seems to be fine so far. i just wish i knew where it came from?

idenkilla 01-17-2008 01:32 PM

yea I JUS REALIZED IT was vogue and not voyage. anyway did u try gps or nethin?

binny1070 01-17-2008 01:46 PM

I need the drivers for the gps. without that I do not think it will work I tried google maps and nothing seemed to happen. maybee somone with some rom building taliants can help me out I would be willing to put a cooked rom on here with all the gps stuff built in. I just have no idea what to do when it comes to rom building I work a kitchen, and add my own oems but that is about as far as I go.

bchiple 01-17-2008 01:54 PM

DCD appears to have gotten it off of a Sprint Vogue update. Do some digging on XDA under Vogue.

binny1070 01-17-2008 02:30 PM

Yea I saw that last night. still no problems yet I guess that is a good thing.

I'd like to think we all know the risks we take when we make any kind of modification to any phone. Given the right circumstance, a small .cab file could brick a phone. I say that to say you shouldn’t feel responsible for the actions that others take.

With that said I'm having a hard time finding the Titan (2.13) radio... dcd posted one specifically for the Vogue but it’s not compatible with the Titan (error 244: Invalid model ID).

You would be a great help to not only me but the rest of the PPC community if you could post it. Then we all could report findings. Ya Digg?

xda : xda @ ftp.xda-developers.com/

Titan

Radio_Roms

Quick question, how do you apply it?

nemanracing 01-17-2008 03:06 PM

I found it too... You use the Same RUU tool you use to flash cust roms to your titan. As always make sure your titan is spl unlocked before you flash... I'm gonna run some speed tests here with the stock radio(vzw) and then with this... I'll post what i find later...

bedoig 01-17-2008 03:22 PM

Are we sure that it is the 2.13 radio from the Vogue, and not just the stock radio from Qwest's 2.13 ROM?

bchiple 01-17-2008 03:30 PM

It appears to be a bit of a mystery. XDA has a thread as well

binny1070 01-17-2008 03:56 PM

I upped it to the ppcgeeks ftp its in my folder titan/users/binny1070

idenkilla 01-17-2008 04:34 PM

yea i wana flash it to my fone but i jus got it to how i like so ill wait to hear from u guys. I hope this wud unlok the gps

Vinny 01-17-2008 04:42 PM

with the Touch not having Wifi, would be interested to know if WiFi still works on the Mogul with this Radio version...

binny1070 01-17-2008 04:53 PM

just turned on my wifi and seemed to work. did not connect but it found new connetions

miguelfp1 01-17-2008 05:09 PM

after the upgrade, my phone does have a stronger signal, BUT only connects to the Internet at 1X, is it only me having a problem with no EV-DO? I'm using a ROM created with DogGuy's kitchen and 60611 PRL, if that matters.

ebmorgan 01-17-2008 05:27 PM

I'm doing it now. I can confirm....it does say updating to 1.12. Weird....

FYI - I'm doing this with the stock Sprint 2.17 ROM

ebmorgan 01-17-2008 05:58 PM

Well, I just completed it and did some testing, including a "keynote", and there is no performance difference. Same qualtiy calls, same wifi, but most disappointingly, same EVDO speed. Not Rev.A....:(

binny1070 01-17-2008 06:13 PM

this was from xda i am noticing the same speed increase

"Phone- Sound is excellent. Fixes problem of not being able to answer phone after 1.40 radio install.

Bluetooth- works fine.

Wifi- works fine, although the hard button on the side of the device no longer works. Connect/disconnect through comm manager is fine. May try another hard reset to see if this is fixable. A small sacrifice vs. the increase in EVDO speed.

Evdo speed 868kbps. This is a 33% increase over prior. Getting an extra bar in most locations."

I have updated the radio on my 6700, but this will be my first time on my 6800 and I want to be sure I do it right. My 6800 is unlocked and I have an RUU for radio 1.40 with ruu_signed.nbh in it.

Do I rename titan_2.13_CDMA.nbh to ruu_signed.nbh and replace the one in the 1.40 directory or can I move the original nbh and copy titan_2.13_CDMA.nbh to the directory, and the RUU will use it based on the nbh extension?

Also, on the 6700, only a soft reset was needed after the install. Is that the same on the 6800 or is a hard reset really needed?

binny1070 01-17-2008 06:21 PM

no need to do rename the file, and when upgrading it will reset your device, you will loose everything so backup everything that you want to keep.

drew826 01-17-2008 06:22 PM

As long as you only have one .nbh file in the RUU directory, it will auto-load any filename with the .nbh extension. I don't know what it does if you have multiple .nbh files in the directory.

The hard reset happens automatically after upgrading the radio. I don't think there's any way to prevent it.

vboyz103 01-17-2008 06:25 PM

Edit: working now, just downloaded the wrong ROM.

JimSmith94 01-17-2008 07:37 PM

Cool, thanks guys! :) I just noticed that my previous question bumped me into senior member territory! :headbang:

steps 01-17-2008 08:48 PM

Has anyone tried OZ Messenger with the new radio????

vboyz103 01-17-2008 09:08 PM

Updated on VZW 6800 but no difference notice for me!! :(

I think it's all YMMV on coverage areas.

digiblur 01-17-2008 09:23 PM

No changes here. EVDO still works on the cellular band here. Voice still works fine on PCS band.

I was actually thinking that, can someone try it.

binny1070 01-17-2008 11:28 PM

Has anyone played with the gps at all. This firmware should have the ability to use the built in gps. so i think that would be the biigest advantage of all this.

miguelfp1 01-18-2008 12:46 AM

I just ended up downgrading to 1.40 radio/60608 PRL, definitely seems that YMMV depending on your area.

mdecker79 01-18-2008 09:31 AM

I would give it a shot if it didn't hard reset my phone.

Sure I can use a backup program but I don't like doing that...

I thought I remember from another radio thread that there is a way to upgrade without having to hard reset. Anybody else remember that? Am I just making stuff up?

steps 01-18-2008 12:49 PM

looks like ill be testing out gps and OZ messenger myself! Why are people so scary here??? grow some balls!!

OK... Maybe people don't want to hard reset and reload all their programs for a radio upgrade that may or may not do anything at all.

PS. If you think the people are "scary," maybe you should go hide : )

technically you can hex edit the RUU to remove the "task 28" if you want to avoid the hard reset, but i wouldn't recommend that for this or any other installs. Basically if you plan to flash you should plan to hard reset. May not be needed sometimes, but that way if you do have to you won't be mad about it since you'll be properly prepared

Don't know if any of the RUU's for the 6800 have been modified for this, but there is some info if you want to try to alter it yourself. Lots of people from that thread reported doing a soft reset only and it worked fine.

mdecker79 01-18-2008 02:52 PM

I just tested OZ Messenger with the new radio and it still does not work. Same error as before.

bdubya 01-21-2008 05:22 AM

Anyone have another link for the 2.13 radio file, my ftp is blocked. ](*,)

Thanks
