I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

I've been out of the loop. Once I get happy with a phone, I stop looking for tweaks. I got a message from Sprint about updating to 2.2 (I think) a little while ago, and it didn't work. I didn't really think much of it, but now I kind of want to.

I'm rooted stock, but I didn't remove any programs. I've been digging but I can't really find a way to just do the normal update. Do I have to reroot or downloading anything, or can I somehow do the official update? I searched for a firmware update and it told me I was updated. Thanks, and I'm sorry if this is thoroughly addressed, but I didn't see it.

If you go into Settings/About Phone what baseband version does it say you are running? If it ends in EC05, you're up to date.

You can just run the DI18 to EC05 update.zip to update.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/sprint-epi...-download.html

put it on your sd card named as update.zip and boot into recovery then flash.

Also, you might be interested in loading up a custom kernel with the fixed sound driver, the devs fixed the bass that I remember you wanted :)

Whoa whoa whoa, ok.

1) You're going to hate me but where do I get that? Also, I read some updates wipe your phone, is this one of them? And would that put me on 2.2? I'm super dumb with this stuff haha.

2) How the hell did you remember? And seriously??? You have to tell me what I need to do man.

Follow the link in gTen's post, and no it will not wipe your phone.

I edited it afterwards don't worry lol..I just wanted to tell you the details then went to find it...

After you upgrade you can load up the custom kernels..(as they are for 2.2 anyways)

P.S I remember everything ;)

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

Ok, so that link will kick me to 2.2, right? I know I'm asking dumb questions, but I still don't know Android unfortunately.

And I hate to nag, but do you have a link to that kernel, hopefully with instructions attached?

I appreciate it man, I really do.

JohnnyOnTheSpot 04-06-2011 08:13 PM

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

So I tried to install from the link and got:

"E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted."

Yeah just flash it in recovery.

Well once you install it you just have to load up clockwork and then flash the kernel in clockwork...fairly simple..

There are a few kernels to choose from that have the fix. LEt me get ya a list 1 sec.

Voodoo Sound Version 7:

Genocide kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961614

Voodoo Sound Version 6:

Vision Kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1012136

Twilight Kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976197

--

You'll have to then download the voodoo sound app afterwards..

MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A CLOCKWORKMOD BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING THE KERNEL..the kernel should not wipe data..but just in case anything goes wrong you want to have it just in case.

You did copy it to the root of the sd card, right?

Yup, and named it update.zip. I rebooted into recovery through Rom Manager and just got that error.

What version of recovery do you have? 2.5 or 3
You need 2.5 for the update since stock sammy uses rfs and amend scripts.

Edit: gTen your faster and better at this than me. lol

JohnnyOnTheSpot 04-06-2011 08:32 PM

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

I have version 3.0.0.7 of Rom Manager.

What I did was I hit boot into recovery, then I'm in "Android system recovery <2e>, Samsung Recovery Utils - for BML -"

Is that enough info? I didn't know there were multiple recoveries.

This isn't letting me edit posts, weird. Anyway, just to be clear, Clockwork is Rom Manager, right?

I dont think he can be on DI18 and clockwork 3.0...as there was no kernels for it back then with EXT4..

Rom manager is just a UI app for clockworkmod..its version is unrelated to clockwork itself...

sounds like you booted into stock recovery, so either the file is not in place or what you downloaded is corrupt.

We're talking about clockworks recovery, which is separate from rom manager.

Blue text recovery = Stock
Green Text = CW 2.5
Orange Text = CW 3

Edit: I agree with gTen

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

Ok, so I updated to 3.0.1.7 through the market. The way I reboot is I open Rom Manager and click the second option, Reboot into Recovery. Is that right so far? Is it because I have the free version?

make sure its in root of your sd card..aka directly on the card, no folders..if it is..do you have astro file manager, go to details and look at md5

MD5: 1601add164e960f5709b00110544f05a

Um, hmm, I did it a while ago. I think I did it through my USB, doing that one click root on my computer.

well just one more siimple thing to get out of the way..you renamed it on your phone or pc..cause if known extensions is on your pc..it can end up update.zip.zip instead of update.zip

update.zip, did it on my computer. Like I said, I'm not likely to mess up the simple stuff, just the Android specific stuff. I'm not technologically braindead haha, I can function, I just need to learn the OS. And I'm not defending myself, just letting it be known. I really appreciate the help.

Was just confirming..youd be surprised how many times like even myself forget the basic stuff and spend a whole day redoing things from scratch only to facepalm myself lol

kinda like..whats 2+2*2?

Just in case try renaming it to update.zip on the phone directly...also you didnt flash any mods via clockwork (like say that bt fix mod from before) or remove any stock files did you?

JohnnyOnTheSpot 04-06-2011 09:07 PM

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

Haha no I understand, I'm just trying to let you know what you're dealing with. I think the file itself is fine because it's starting the process, just giving me an error half way through. I mean, is it not working because I'm not rebooting into Clockwork? I still don't know how to do that.

I don't think I did anything like that. I know I didn't remove stock files, that's for sure.

your booting into stock recovery, which should flash it fine..what about that BT speaker mod..did you flash that maybe?

Not that I know of, is there any way to check? I know I've done a few installs through there, but I didn't think I did anything like that. I mean, I might have, I honestly don't know.

And don't worry, I'll click it on every one when I'm done haha, I'm an appreciative fellow.

woot time to give ya 200 things to try so I can get a bunch of them ;) jk lol (no one do this lol)

hmm..ok then there are 2 ways to proceed...one we can just flash you to EB13 via tool then EC05 update.zip (easy way)...Odin directly to EC05 (easy but but there are room for issues)...your data will end up being wiped both ways...so you will have to backup your stuff and hope everything goes through fine...

Other way is to do clockworkbackup, Odin to DI18, restore data via clockwork and then proceed to install via that update.zip

your call..

not the edenBT no but update.zip you can flash via stock recovery obviously...back in the day though, we didnt have clockwork redirector so only way to get into clockworkmod was the 3 key combo at boot....rebooting via any method including rom manager just took us to stock recovery.

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

Ok, I'm going to toss something out here. The only way I know how to make a backup is Titanium, which is pretty cumbersome. If I can make a quick backup that will literally return me to the status quo, I don't care about wiping. I just don't feel like doing anything after.

Everything spoken after that might as well be in a foreign language, so I guess I'll take the easiest.

I mean, would the easiest way be to someone get it to redirect to clockwork recovery? It seems that would help at least, right? Unless I'm incapable of doing so at this stage.

flashing via clockwork prob wont help, you may wana do an extra clockwork backup...you know to load up custom busy box via titanium backup right?

Easiest way I find to give people is the EB13 tool (as it gives ya step by step instructions)..then update.zip to EC05..

You enter clockwork by shutting down your phone and powering on using VOL DOWN + CAMERA + POWER

One click root 2.5 would be great for CW with redirector. gTen will have that link for you in like 30 seconds.

MyBackup pro is great, I've heard My Root works well too.
