Haha no worries man I'm not your kid or anything. So I just realized the order appears a bit different in gTen's than in yours, and I think that's my problem. Now I'm in DI18, but with no 2.2. Do I have to re-run Odin now?

Ok, data only. I didn't see an option for that in CRM. Did I overlook something?

Ah, I didn't go into advanced :/ Can I just do a wipe through CWM and start over?

When you go to "restore" go to "advanced restore"

No matter how much I try to mess this up, I am successfully on 2.2, rooted!

So gTen, which audio kernel do you recommend for 2.2, and how do I go about installing it?

Ah ok cool.

Yo, two 2.2 related questions. Is there anyway to change the stock messaging app back to 2.1? This new one is poop.

And...for some reason my ringtones got deleted off of my card...weird. Is that normal?

Ringtone thing is weird.
I'll post the mms thread in a few min.

Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858968

If you look through the themes & apps section you'll find several mms apps. That one is the closest to what was on 2.1.

I thought it was weird. Oh well. Thanks man.

Also, did tethering change? I read it did somewhere.

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

So, I used that mms thing, and I now can't open messaging :/ It force closes every time.

I have not had much luck with tethering, but I rarely need it either. No 4g where i live.

It did change, and there are nice apps for it.

Thanks I'll look into those. I'm more concerned with my messaging not working, what should I do about that?

What's wrong with your messaging?

I click on messaging, and I get a force close every time since installing that link via update.zip.

Try wiping the data from the mms.apk.

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

Tried that...nothing. Then to be a smartass I uninstalled it via Titanium and redid the update.zip, and now I have no messaging haha.

Correction, I have messaging, it's just not in the bottom bar anymore. Any way to bring that back?

I know nothing about the TouchWiz launcher, but I wonder if you can long press in that spot on the bar and add it back.

Copy the kernel to your sd card
Boot into CW recovery
Select "install from zip"
navigate to the kernel, and install.

Derp. Easier than the instructions I found haha, thanks. I'll do it after I finish this backup.

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

Well genocide has latest version so prob that.you'll need to get the voodoo sound app..

now as for ringtones.that is weird, you sure they got deleted though as I know 2.2 changes the path to the sd card a bit so it might just be a pathing issue..did you physically check whether or not they are on the sd card?

JohnnyOnTheSpot 04-08-2011 10:33 PM

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

Yup, physically checked. It's not the end of the world haha, but they are gone. Freakin' weird.

Well..... (my personal belief) Some of the things the instructions on certain thing are precautionary, but not completely necessary. I think as long as you have your info backed up, if something goes wrong you can always go back. I always backup with both Titanium and Clockworks.

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO FLAMING ME FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Voodoo app attached

Lol, found one more quirk. Please tell me there's a way to enable my side clicker to go from sound->vibrate->silent. That one stinks :/

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

I just wanted to say thanks so much for this thread!! I'd tried the Sprint update a few weeks back and it didn't take. I sat and read through all 11 pages to get the info, then did the Odin-to-stock-to-update-to-root process. I'm happy to say that it worked the very FIRST time I tried it (a technological miracle), and now I'm exploring Froyo. So thanks much guys!

One quick question: can programs installed on the phone be moved to the SD card without having to uninstall and re-install? I'm primarily moving all of my games but would hate to lose the data on a couple of them.

Thanks again!

Update: Okay, I now see that there's a "Move to SD card" option in Settings. But for some programs it's grayed out, so does that mean that specific program simply isn't capable of being run from the SD card, even if I were to try to re-install it there?

Some programs will only work on the phones memory. Most of which are system apps.

Re: I have no idea how to update to 2.2...

You know what, I have move questions and I think I hate 2.2.

My e-mail is running like garbage, and no more than the 25 will stick. And it also won't let me read some randomly...I don't know what to do. I'm not the biggest fan of K9, and I'm kind of just frustrated. Should I see if the e-mail will start running better or try a different program?

Also, texting is weird. Can anyone recommend a really good texting app?

I'm actually looking into enhanced email, any thoughts on this?

Not all apps support moving to SD, you can of course format a partition of your SD card into EXT and then you can move pretty much all programs to SD.

Yup, enhanced is an email app. The stock one keeps dumping everything, won't keep more than 25, and just works like poop.

Like gTen said, Handcents and Go are very popular sms programs. I'm how many of the problems you are seeing have anything to do with the stock rom. gTen and I both run customs roms, but I would think that the mms and email apps would be stock. I personally really like K9 for email, and have never had an issue with the stock mms. The stock gmail app is garbage imo.

Otherwise there is a stock/rooted/deodexed full version of 2.2 that might be better and can be flashed with odin. Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Here's the thread it came from. Stock Pre-Rooted Deodexed Zipaligned Png Optimized EC05 Tar 4/7/2011 Fixed Both Tars - xda-developers

Obviously if you go this route. Backup/Odin/Restore.
