Browser Suggestion

Yeah I know this is more for the App section..but I think people should try out Opera 11 Mobile..it has improved A LOT since the older betas(I didnt liek the older versions)..and best of all no checkerboarding!

Its right now the only browser that has Flash support and Hardware Acceleration..not to mention it also is onyl browser with 100/100 acid 3 score and a score of 234+8 on the HTML 5 test!

Comparison of browser standards scores: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/1996898-post13.html

I was even able to do zoom in and zoom out while flash movie was running with 0 refreshes of the page and no lag..(I have flash 10.2 installed as well)

Its available in the market and in my opinion best browser ATM...

I was before using FireFox as my 2nd browser but FF still doesn't have Flash support after RC..and I was hoping to use FF plugins for the browser but ATM Opera Mobile is really nice!

Its available in the market.

You can configure advanced settings in opera by going to:

opera:config

Re: Browser Suggestion

got this from a tbob18 from xda

Anyone that wants a quick browser should check out the new Opera Mobile.

It runs absolutely fantastic on the Epic, it now supports flash and a lot more HTML5 than the previous version.

A few tests/benchmarks (using Syndicate @ 1.2ghz, desktop is a Core 2 Quad@3.2ghz):

Google V8 benchmark:
Mobile Browsers
- Opera Mobile 11: 310
- Stock Browser : 214
- Dolphin Mini: 256
- Firefox: Would not finish
- Skyfire: 223
Desktop Browsers
- Firefox 4: 4335
- Chrome: 9606
- Opera: 3981

Sunspider Benchmark:
Mobile Browsers
- Opera Mobile 11: 2953.1ms
- Stock Browser: 5260.1ms
- Dolphin Mini: 4896.9ms
- Firefox: Would not run
- Skyfire: 7181.0ms
Desktop Browsers
- Firefox 4: 216.2ms
- Chrome: 246.4ms
- Opera: 232.2ms

BrowserMark:
Mobile Browsers
- Opera Mobile 11: 31769
- Stock Browser: 39319
- Dolphin Mini: 42571
- Firefox: 50421
- Skyfire: Would not finish
Desktop Browsers
- Firefox 4: 389649
- Chrome: 741616
- Opera: 728651

Html5Test.com
Mobile Browsers
- Opera Mobile 11: 234
- Stock Browser: 182
- Dolpin Mini: 192
- Firefox: 235
- Skyfire: 192
Desktop Browsers
- Firefox 4: 255
- Chrome: 293
- Opera: 234

Opera may not have better scores in all tests, but it "feels" much smoother with less lag (especially when scrolling/zooming).

One of the major enhancements with Opera compared to other browsers (other than Firefox) is how it displays images.. It shows animations in gifs and will show the full size image for nearly any size image with no compression (i tried 12mp photos with no problems) all other browsers I tried other than Firefox (which was slow in comparison) would show a low res preview even if you zoom in.

It is about time someone released a proper browser for Android that feels nice and smooth while scrolling on nearly any site, and that supports most of the web standards.

still seems like dolphin is a better choice if flash is not a big thing for you

Yeah I suggest updating flash as well..its a lot more stable then 10.1..

But once you get to try it you will see how much Hardware acceleration makes a difference.

Re: Browser Suggestion

i tried opera 11 so far I like the whole look and feel of it. I like how everything is more accessible, quick, more multitask capable on it. Does actually support flash on it.

Speed on download the webpage content was ok and i do have the setting Opera turbo on "ON" but to really test it out im gonna give it a try in another area where i have better data reception.

So you know..Turbo means that the content is rendered on Opera's servers..

Opera: browser tips

so its helpful when in bad connection but prob wont help in rendering stuff..that and it goes through Opera's servers so depends on how you feel about that...

Re: Browser Suggestion

didnt think much about that (data going through there servers) but the way you put it going to remove that setting asap just thought about how it supposedly would make the speed 70% faster as it claims.

so far i see that dolphin browser is some what faster but it doesnt support flash but when im using it for work it doesnt matter because im just going through web pages filling in data nont viewing videos but for personal use i just use youtube. Hope they make Opera faster though used to use it alot when i was running WINMO.

right now testing and comparing : stock, opera 11, dolphin browser, xscope.

You mean Dolphin HD or Dolphin mini? because there is also Opera Mini 6 (never tried it though)

But so far I have not had Opera 11 hiccup on me so its doing very well considering the features..

Edit: Also turbo is kinda pointless unless your connection is slow..it compresses the data..but on a good connection it will probably slow down the rendering as more things to process.
