Re: I'm ready to flash a custom ROM, what's suggested?

I would suggest midNIGHT rom Ext4 with journaling on.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/sprint-epi...09-2011-a.html

It gives you the benefit of the Ext4 file system with the added stability of journaling. It also includes the latest bonsai kernel which allows for overclocking with set cpu and undervolting to save battery life.

ok, im looking at the midnight rom ext4 w/journaling as the way to go. but one thing has me a little hesitant. it says clearly that "THIS WILL WIPE DATA. THERE IS NO BACKUP AND RESTORE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED." i have backed up my rom/data using CW2.5 and also have used titanium backup as well for apps and what not. does this mean that i wont be able to restore any of the things i backed up? i'd hate to loose my apps, themes, widgets, and sms.

I would not suggest restoring with CWM 2.5 backup....Titanium should work but make sure you used the "Problems?" button to load up the custom busybox..

To use EXT4 based roms you will have to convert to CWM 3.0 which will reformat your partition to EXT4.

ok, i understand that and im trying to update to cwm 3.0 using the 1-click method by Dameon07 but i keep getting an error after i try running the run.bat file. it tells me that .arm is missing and also to delete the files in the data/temp file.

your antivirus must have automatically deleted the .arm file.... extract it again and set you AV to ignore that file..

ok, found the culprit was my antivirus program deleting a file. but now after the run.bat starts im getting this message, then nothing happens: "adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and re-login."

Reset your phone, reset your pc, make sure debug mode is enabled, then plug it in, make sure all 4 drivers load up, then run it...you should get the "adb connection will be reset. restart adb server on desktop and re-login." messaged and in 30 sec it should begin flashing..if not then get back to me and we will look at it in more detail...

Also if your using a Desktop PC, use the back usb ports if possible..

Re: I'm ready to flash a custom ROM, what's suggested?

that worked. i also turned off lookout mobile's antivirus as well and it did the trick. but now i have a new problem. in the midst of getting cw3, i forgot to put the midnightrom .zip on my phones sdcard. now it just freezes at the samsung startup screen with the samsungmobile.com web address and doesn't go further. i think im bricked...what now???
