:/...if not I guess I'll have more souls to feast on...

Though why is it taken them so long...

EA17 = Jan 17th..they really need to do a full month of testing?

though if its already out in the wild a leak may be possible..but I'm fine waiting too..

I'm more curious if the update is worth the wait. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the Vibrant release of 2.2? Did it fix ALL the problems it had, or at least an overwhelming amount of them?

Considering how long Sprint made us wait to get this update, you should add to the over/under the amount of bugs Sprint/Samsung still missed with it.

For all the effing excuses like, "Sprint & Samsung are working to release Froyo for Epic ASAP, but only after it meets rigorous testing criteria to ensure quality experience.” how sad would it be if a bug as large as the GPS one made it into this release.

I still doubt that the 21rst is realistic--although you'd think that they would have to release something before the phone is retired in the summer. They are probably stretching the release date so that they give you 2.2.1 and then they can wipe their hands free of this phone and work on the next version of the Galaxy S. I seriously doubt Sprint or Samsung will wind up putting any more time into this phone. Pity though because on paper this is probably the best phone in existence right now that's available in the states.

While I would love to see it come with stock Gingerbread, with the exception of Apple--has ANY carrier or manufacture released two upgraded versions, let alone Samsung??

That part I get, I was wondering if it was like Roman Numerals, for example E always meant January it looks to me like they are just incrementing the first two characters and using the numbers as a release date. Just looking for a pattern other than the obvious...

Yes thats exactly what they were doing..they have also in the past skipped digits to signify upgrades..or variation...

i9000 has JF3, JPY, JPM and etc....(they got to M since they skipped some letters to give room for both Froyo and Eclair updates..as you can guess i9000 gets a lot more updates then us carrier locked folks)

its similar for all their phones.. just gotta find the starting point..

Interesting, I didn't know that Motorola gave 2 concurrent updates to any of their line--which phone was it? I did know that they recently condemned a long awaited upgrade to some phone a week ago, so I guess it's hit or miss...

Do you think there's a good chance that the Epic will see Gingerbread from Samsung themselves? I remember them saying yes on one of the overseas forums in reference to the Galaxy S but then they removed the comment post-haste.

Would be nice to know where Sprint stands on this. I'd complain a LOT less if I thought the 4G tax would be put into something that would benefit me with an obvious see-able gain.

Don't worry, starting Feb 1 all upgraded or new smart phone line now get the 4G tax, not just 4G device users. As far as gb goes, let's get froyo first and then see if they decide to jack us around on gb rumors.

Yes, this really kills my ESN swaping, I have an old flip phone I use while white water rafting and jetskiing and a smart phone for everything else. It won't hit me till this summer but I'm annoyed about the loss of this feature if I haven't upgraded by then. If I had a clear decisive promise from Sprint, I would just get 2 Epics and be done with it--arghhhh bloody 2 year contract!

Me and my stupid commitment problems, just ask my wife--stretched that bachelorhood out for 12 friggin' years.

Yeah, I have a Vogue I wanted to reactivate, but not now.

As far as Samsung goes, damn near everything in my house is Samsung, but there will be a pretty good chance that my next phone won't be.

Unlike HTC and the issue with getting updates out being more an issue with the carrier. Anyone remember how long it took to get 6.5 on the TP2? Everyone else had it months before Sprint. This time we can place a good part of the blame on Samsung.

The Motorola Droid 1 got the 2.0.1 update, 2.1 and 2.2..

I am pretty sure i9000 will get it..I see no reason why not as its fairly similar to Nexus S..as for the Epic..I hope so but its up to the carrier :/

Why? flip phones have no extra $10 fee..unless your swapping a none Epic smartphone?

Wait--I'm confused, you already have the Epic so aren't you already paying the $10 tax, why would it matter to you if you switched to Vogue and back again? You don't have to pay the fee every time you switch phones do you?? I thought that they just were going to hit you with a $10 fee each month whether you had a 3G or 4G phone once you "broke the seal", am I mistaken?

I was going to swap out one of the other phones on my account for it, not my Epic.

No I have PPC-6800 and a old school Katana, when I play in the water, I swap to the Katana and a ziplock bag, then back to the Mogul when I'm done, so while I'm not penalized on the Katana swap, when I go back to the Mogul, BAMM $10 a month, or so I thought that's how it'll work.

I'd say yes, but the protest has only been going on for 2 weeks and we haven't had a new leak in over 2 months.

That would be a funny story for the Onion though.

He mentioned a few posts up that his thing is water sports (jet skiing, boating, etc) and he puts the katana in a ziploc bag. My guess (i had jetskis before too) is that if he loses or trashes or water logs the katana, it's not a big loss.. then afterwards he swaps his 'good' phone back onto the account.

Just making a stab.

What he said!

The Katana is thin and fits in my pocket much better than the mogul and I wouldn't lose a moments sleep if I lost it or if it got wet. The Mogul on the other hand has proprietary emails and programs and would cost much more to me if I were to lose it or it took water damage. For throw-away phone its so versatile, I can actually sync it through Outlook with bluetooth flawlessly. Doesn't get mail or anything but I can at least be reached and it has all my contacts with me all the time.

When and if I get the Epic, I will be doing the same thing again with it. It's way too nice of a phone to risk getting wet.

So when we got our EVO update it took about 2-3 wks until my phone was able to download the update. I think they roll them out to a certain amount of people a day. So even if it is released it may be a few more weeks until YOU actually have it.

If you're talking strictly about the OTA, then you are correct.

However ;) i'm sure someone on here will get the OTA in one of the early 'waves' and get it posted as an update.zip or .tar... I don't think it will be 'weeks' per se...

Anywho it seems now the latest and greatest is EB09, which in turn most likely just reset the clock AGAIN...

Neat URL though, I'm sure it'll be taken down fast enough, once it leaks back to Sprint, it's just release notes not a download.

There i still a possibility that EA17 would be released and EB09 and farther is going to be a next patch..

Then there is possibility EA17 -> EB09 are just minor updates

Then there is the possibility that sprint hates us :(

The Epic is yesterday, no scratch that, last year's news. Been 8 months and we are still getting jerked around about just getting Froyo while all the other phones are getting ready for Gingerbread. This phone was another monumental failure from Samsung. Never again will they dupe me. If it has Samsung's name on it and it's not 50" or bigger and isn't a LED or Plasma, it will sit right there! They will never get another dime from me!
