NIB broken accelerometer?

anyone having problems with their accelerometer? I just got this phone this week and mine is acting all crazy in google skymaps and some other sensor apps. I'm going to call up and complain if no one else is having these problems.

Also during voice calls my screen will randomly turn on! maybe this is a side effect of my jacked up sensors, but the proximity sensor seems to check out okay.

off topic: is there anyway to see the duration of a previous call?

You can recalibrate your accelometer if your rooted by getting Android Terminal app and typing

Re: NIB broken accelerometer?

Thanks for the reply, but Ive already done that. It made no difference at all. some sensor apps work well, but others are jumpy.

Can anyone confirm smooth rotation in all directions in google skymaps? on a stock rom? if that matters.

Are you talking about the Digital Compass? if so that is Satellite/GPS based..you have to upgrade to Froyo to fix that.

Im talking about google sky map, I dont understand its got millions of downloads and not one person can confirm or deny they have smooth rotation in every direction...

Also my magnetic compass seems to work fine with gps turned off. My gps does however take forever to get a lock sometimes.

edit: I just tested my compass again holding my phone up twords the sky and it did start acting funny! but even apps like panoplanet lite, vr tunnel and ibeer that dont use the compass act all jittery.

Should I bring this phone back to the sprint store?

I know this a dumb question but I had to be sure because I was using that app when I was too lazy to go outside. So here it is... When you're using Skymap, were you inside the building?

EDIT :
And since its a nib, have you tried playing the game demo Asphalt to see how it turns out?

I used sky map before and it looked ok to me :/...I guess flash back to stock, bring it to the store and try the demo unit to see how it is..if it doesn't have the issue return it..I mean you have 30 days...

If you think its your accelometer you can test it by going to the phone app

dial:

*#0*#

then click Sensor

then Accelometer

Ive used skymap inside and outside with the same results, I dont think it matters.. but ofc you cant compare it to the real stars inside.. my problem is when you moved the phone its jumps all around.

I havent tried asphalt, but labyrinth seems to work well.

I just got back from the sprint store, and the guy told me you cant see the stars when the sun is out (while we were both in the store so I have to assume he wasnt talking about the real stars) and that you have to hold it above the horizon (also not true). Im not sure whats worse if he thought the app only worked at night or if he thought that all the stars surrounding the earth magically disappear when the sun is out. lol. Either way after that answer I didnt think it was worth waiting on the list anymore to talk to someone so I tried it on the two demo phones in the store with the same results.

Im still on the stock rom, I guess Ill just wait for the official update, unless there are any roms out there with everything fully functional. In the past every wm6 rom Ive ever used had something not quite working right (like picture rotation in album viewer), it was a trade off for newer software.

Re: NIB broken accelerometer?

Try upgrading to Froyo..then you can manually calibrate the accelometer...or it might just fix your issue automatically when you upgrade...
