to flash into this do you have to be rooted? it says that its prerooted but isnt rooting the epic like unlocking the tp2?

to flash any kind of custom you do have to rooted first even if what your trying to is "pre-rooted". now i could be wrong but i dont think the epic is much different than the evo is terms of flashing roms

You do not have to be rooted to flash dk17, or even dk28 for that matter. They both have odin flashable versions. The download for dk17 that I use even includes odin in the zip file for easy use. Odin does not care if y9ou rooted or not. Its a clean slate tool, no matter what the state of your device.
