ideas?

Which recovery are you using to flash the update.zip? stock recovery or clockworkmod?

The md5 checksum of the udpate.zip is: (jsut in case it got corrupt while downloading)
708b67bb9ee9e7fa380c8b785fde395c

Also, I'm guessing your against using odin even if you can get your data and apps back?

all those words seem pretty nice and all. I can see each individual word and know the meanings of them, but when placed in that order... well, they don't mean anything to me. I don't want to put anything other than this DK28 release that posted yesterday. When I try to apply the update.zip method of updating to the phone, the install gives me an assert failed error from the SprintZone.apk that is install. Does anyone know how to get past the issue? I don't want to do anything with Odin. Midgard answers only.

I don't have any md5 checksum software for my pc so that isn't going to help.

I hold vol+power+camera, the phone boots to a screen that is different from the original recovery screen cause it has more options (and it is green instead of blue)
I try the second option update.zip = assert failed
I try a couple options down "install from zip" and choose the .zip file = assert failed

I just rebooted to show this again and it went to the blue screen recovery instead... that was weird. I tried using that screen to install update.zip and it has the same exact issue (but with more colors.)

Now, when I boot, I get the blue recovery screen and not the green recovery screen.. every time.

Re: Official Android 2.2 (Froyo) update emerges for Sprint's Epic 4G

So how do you install it? The process is pretty simple:

1.
Download the update from Google’s servers.
2.
If you aren’t rooted or aren’t using ClockworkMod recovery, rename the file to "update.zip."
3.
Plug your Epic 4G into your computer, mount it as a USB drive, and copy the file to the root of its SD card (the main folder).
4.
Unplug the phone.
5.
Turn it off and boot into recovery mode (hold down the "volume down," "power," and "camera" buttons all at once).
6.
If you’re using the Epic 4G’s stock recovery mode, keep hitting the "volume down" key until you get to "Apply update.zip." Then press the "camera" button and confirm that you do indeed want to proceed. Alternatively, it you’re using ClockworkMod recovery, press the "volume down" key until you get to "Apply zip from SD card." Select it using the "camera" key, and then confirm your choice.
7.
Wait for it to finish flashing before selecting "Reboot system now."
8.
You’re done! Note that the device may take a little longer than usual to boot up – this is normal.

you can check md5 via Astro file manager on the phone by hitting details on the file.

Can you check the md5 of the update.zip you are flashing?

It should be: 708b67bb9ee9e7fa380c8b785fde395c

thanks for the link, I am going to try it now. I agree, everything is better on this rom, gps actually worked just. a bit ago and was acurate for the most part, the evo stil gets a quicker lock though. gotta test the 4g when I can get out of these boring suburbs soon.

The fix over at xda with the link provided by gten works via titanium, can't confirm the flashable zip as I used titanium. Thanks gten, That didn't come up in a search over there or here. You saved me from going back to 2.1, it keeps the kid quiet for a very long time when driving long distances, lol
