Mine did that a couple times too.

I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked like a champ.

Once you're rooted, the fun begins

Hey, what's the story on z4root???

Anyone tried z4root?

Two of the comments on Market say it worked on Epics. I'm not brave enough to be first on our block to test it. But it sounds easy enough for even a coward like me to use.

No reason why it shouldn't work...the current method of rooting ends up Exploiting ADB in android...since manufacturers can't do much about ADB the rooting method is universal to all android devices..to note though z4root doesnt come with the other things like clockworkmod, superuser and etc...which if you wnat have to install sepperatly

Talking The z4root story

YES! It works on Epic with 1 click, no computer connection, and no other procedures required.

But...
1. You have to have USB debugging ON.
2. You have to clear you memory of any apps running in the background.

If you don't do (1), the app tells you to do it.

If you don't do (2), the app runs and runs and runs and runs and...
So you have to soft reset(hold the power button in or press Vol up-camera- power - thanks again for that one, Hypnotic 2010), kill all background apps (I used Memory Boost Lite), and then run z4root again.

Wham! 20 seconds later, I was rooted. And 20 more seconds later I had Titanium backup installed. It's so simple that even I could do it.

Maybe this should be a separate thread?
