idk whats going on. still cant flash mods or roms

ok i know all about the wiki and ive read it and it didnt help me so please dont tell me to read the wiki.

as far as i can tell i have rooted my phone. i downloaded a clear cache app that says it requires root and it worked but when Im in custom recovery the text is blue which it should be green right?

I was trying to flash this for starters:

So I guess I just really need someone to please give me a detailed step by step list of what I need to do/download and where the files need to be stored in order for everything to properly become rooted and where i need to store the files in order to flash also.

and if someone can please tell me what a kernal is and wether or not i need to do one everytime i flash a rom id appreciate that also.

Well it sounds to me like maybe u dont have recovery and should get if ur only just rooted. I had the epic but went to the evo so im not real sure on epics but they cant be too much different. Hope that helps

You need to get clockworkmod to flash stuff...check out the wiki for instructions how to install it.

Or amon ra recovey, fron what i been reading this is the better recovery but doesnt let u rename like clockwork or go through all ur folders like clockwork. I hear it better on a factory reset wiping everything so when u flash roms ect theres no problems

Also easy to put amon ra recovery is puting the file in root of sd and use rom manager to flash. Use the option of altern. recovery to flash the amon ra and u should be good to go. Screw what everyone says about wiki they are just to lazy to help i think hehe. Well hoped i helped ya

There is no Amon Ra recovery for the Epic..Clockwork is what we use.

And for the record I spent time making that wiki >.>

I have also spent some time working to make the wiki a helpful, user-friendly product. If that's not helping, what is? There is a lot of information there all in one place and fairly well organized. Honestly, anything I would tell you here I already put there. Take your time and do what it says and you should be fine.

O see thats why i said i wasnt sure what recovery the epic was using. And for the record wasnt tryin to be a jerk but been in his shoes. Keep researching and all the help u get is to tell u to keep researching in a dead end or whatever. The whole point is i dont knock ur work to wiki bc im sure one point in time u helped me but it just sucks when ur treated like that noob or whatever stupid idk. Bunch of ****y people on here that says the same thing wiki, google so so on. Were just trying to learn like the next man. Some people just cant all do it by reading!! But not tryin to start anything just stating a point.

Look at it this way no one would ask for help if they already been researching wiki whatever and still cant do it, think about it. But like i said in the above post is im not starting anything just stating the obvious.

But see the above was a good example..sometimes you can get help which is uninformed...the point of the wiki is that its made up of the most commonly asked questions..if they don't understand after reading the wiki I will help them..and based on the information they didn't understand I will update to improve the wiki so more people can understand it...

I have not gotten a chance lately to update some of the stuff I wanted to but I plan to in the near future to make the wiki easier to understand for everyone...so far I've read every single post in the entire Galaxy S section so I am keeping count of all the common issues and solutions which I plan to add there.

I do not tell people to google things unless I give them exactly what to google..in the wiki case its fairly organized for people to browse to what they need (hence I told them to look for clockworkmod in the wiki so I am not sending them uninformed)..and as stated if they don't understand something in the wiki, I an/or someone else will assist them..but the wiki is the first step because it makes it easier for a person to understand..

For example..imagine they would have went to search for Amon Ra and tried to install it on their phone? it could have ended up bricking their phone...on the other hand if you would have went to the wiki, you would be able to easier assist the user..get it? it also acts as a reference for helping others.
