Re: idk whats going on. still cant flash mods or roms
Anon9mouz dont worry about it man i appreciate the help and since u clearly said that u werent 100% sure then I dont really see why people would take the time to post a reply that to me seemed like it was purposely calling you out and was frankly fairly rude. i think it was just taken personally that the wiki wasnt a universal helper by the ppl that helped write it. like we've both said the wiki is obviously helpful to a lot of people but i was missing a step since the root method i used didnt give me cwm so thank you everyone who helped.

There are several custom kernels out there for Android 2.1. These change things like how fast the processor runs or how much voltage it eats up. These things specifically address speed, performance and battery life. Some ROMs have a custom kernel included, while other simply use the stock kernel. Other ROMs don't have a kernel included at all. With these you have to experiment with different kernels to see which gives you the best results. As yet the source code for the Android 2.2 kernel has not been released, therefore there are no custom kernels for any Froyo ROMs yet. If you are looking to experiment and try different combinations, stick to the 2.1 ROMs. As far as your data goes, yes Clockworkmod will back up all your user data. If you go back one page and read the post I left about how to flash ROMs with Clockwork you will see where it describes how to restore your user data after flashing a new ROM. BTW that post is also in the wiki, so if you need to go back and read it again and can't remember where you saw it, look in the wiki. Last edited by Johnny.Bravo; 11-22-2010 at 09:39 PM. |

Re: idk whats going on. still cant flash mods or roms
yea i read that in your post and in the wiki but it just says user data so i wasnt sure if that meant just ur customizations like widgets, contacts and stuff like that or if it meant everything including app data and stuff.
so you can flash a kernal over any rom? or do u have to keep the kernal that a rom comes with? |

Re: idk whats going on. still cant flash mods or roms
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think you can flash any kernel over any ROM as long as its from the same version of Android. Don't try to flash a 2.1 kernel into a 2.2 ROM or vice versa. Read through the threads for each one and look for user feedback as to which one gets the best results. Some give you faster speeds while others give you a longer lasting battery.
