Finally Going to Root

Okay, I'm finally ready to root and try other roms and open this thing to its full potential. I've unlocked and flashed Windows on my HTC Touch Pro, so I'm not entirely new to this. I have a couple of questions though before I start though...

1. I currently have all of my contact and links set up how I want them. Is there a way to back up the contacts and links so I don't lose the information after flashing? What programs, etc, should I use? Is there also a way I can see this information on my PC?

2. I've read through the guides and it all seems pretty basic and similar to Windows flashing. I am confused on the difference between a kernal and rom though. Can someone shed some light?

Thanks!

google saved all my contacts on tp2 and epic imported them and some roms (experience) dont include a kernel so either use stock or flash a kernel just like your flashing a rom. (clockwork)

Re: Finally Going to Root

Has anyone flashed to a rom that actually increased 3d performance? And if so, how much faster is it?

Re: Finally Going to Root

Okay, I'm rooted and I have installed Clockworkmod Recovery. How do I make a backup of my current rom with it? I don't see a backup/restore feature in Clockwork... am I missing something?

So far all the roms are just overclocks/undervolts and minor modifications..the biggest modification is prob the pheonix one...but I wouldnt exactly say they improve 3d performance..we need 4 things to improve it Froyo, Gingerbread and uncap the 56fps, overclock the GPU.

Are you sure you booted into clockworkmod and not the stock recovery? it should say clockworkmod on top...also you can hep manage clockworkmod with an app called Rom Manager

Re: Finally Going to Root

I guess it's just the regular system recovery, but the script said it installed. I guess I'll have to give it another shot tonight... doh!
