Re: Former TP2 users thoughts on the Epic
I set up my old tp2 for my gf this weekend. I must say that I REALLY miss that keyboard. Now, it might have been me installing a couple things, but the UI for the TP2 is so slow. the epic is snappy and responsive 99% of the time.
I'm also always still messing up the shift/fn buttons. |

Re: Former TP2 users thoughts on the Epic
I would definitely agree that the TP2 might have the nicest keyboard on a mobile phone, at least the phones which I have used.

I just setup my wife's TP2 this past weekend and the keyboard on the TP2 does seem bit more easy to use. Maybe just my familiarity with the TP2. But also the WinMo platform just lags in so many areas. Personally I went from the TP2 to the EVO now to the Epic. I am still trying to decide if I can live with the captive buttons on the epic as they are so unresponsive compared to the EVO. Also I miss Froyo! -D |

Re: Former TP2 users thoughts on the Epic
I have both a TP2 and an Epic on 2 separate lines..and I gotta say, after using the Epic turning on my TP2 starts to be annoying lol (I never felt this before until I got my Epic)...The keyboard is a bit getting used to if you come from TP2 due to the location of the buttons, but once thats out of the way I kinda like it as well..so far its prob the #2 keyboard I have tried..(TP2 being #1)
The thing about the Epic is it actually works fairly well out of box...which is probably a first lol

Strange...I never had that problem...did you check your unit to make sure there is no issue with the keys or anything?

Re: Former TP2 users thoughts on the Epic
I've had the issue with 2 Epics, you just need to hit the buttons a smidge harder. With that said, I see NO reason to use the TP2 over the Epic.
The difference to me is waking up and stepping on broken glass vs. waking up and stepping on pillows while you're served the most delicious breakfast, every morning. There is no comparison. I feel like the TP2 is a breaking point for a lot of WinMo users, and the Epic had it's arms wide opened to introduce you into Android. I was horrified with the thought of switching, but the TP2 shows WinMo's limitations. That phone looked pretty and ran like complete garbage, whereas the Epic runs great and looks it as well. I can't fathom going back to the TP2. |

Re: Former TP2 users thoughts on the Epic
My wife went from the TP2 to the Epic and she's pretty ambivalent about it. There are some things she likes, some things she hates and some things that still don't seem to work quite right, but in a different way that the TP2 screwed up the mobile-phone-as-almost-notebook-replacement experience.
She likes: 1.) The responsiveness of the phone - no lag like the TP2. 2.) The screen, and I have to say that I am jealous of the AMOLED. She hates: 1.) The lack of MS Office apps. The ones they have always corrupt e-mail attachments and don't seem to be fully fleshed out to really replace Pocket Office. 2.) There are a litany of applications she used on her TP2 that simply aren't available (yet) on the Android. The list is really too long to mention here, but one notable one is Bing. She says the Bing app is FUBARed on the Epic. 3.) The consistently poor battery life. We've mitigated this a bit with some tweaks and with Juice Defender, but it was quite a surpise when the first few days were off-the-charger to low-battery-warning in 3 hours. Now she gets about 8 or 9 hours with normal usage. The things that are still screwed up, but in a different way: 1.) It randomly dumps the Yahoo inbox. 2.) It will randomly screw up the settings of other accounts where the account has to be deleted and recreated. I have been contemplating the switch, but the big turn-off is the lack of a dual-band radio. My company is based in Sweden and I regularly travel to Europe and Canada where CDMA is non-existent. I thought that the advent of the TP2 heralded a new era in Sprint where their top-end phones were going to always be dual-band (a.k.a. "world phones"), but it seems to me that they have regressed a bit by now only getting CDMA-only phones...and a CrackBerry is NOT an satisfactory option, nor are any other of their stripped-down world phones. If it wasn't for the fact that the GSM service in Dallas sucks so bad, I would be seriously tempted to just switch services. Anyway, sorry to rant, but I thought that I would throw in my $0.02.
