just got an epic..
Loving it so far, it's pretty responsive. For some reason, after I rooted it and downloaded The Boss ROM, renamed the zip file to update.zip, and booted into recovery, it would not read the update.zip as a valid file. Any ideas?

you need a custom recovery for that to work. there will be certain files missing to my knowledge that wont allow it to be seen by the stock recovery

try to use/install "clockwork mod recovery" to install the update.zip file
the clockwork mod recovery is the only custom recovery that's available at the moment.
