Among the other problems with using this particular speed test, Opera Mini uses a server to render web sites and simply sends a compressed representation of the web site to your phone, so when using Opera mini, you were simply measuring the speed between the speed test site and the Opera server, not your phone.

I'm at work and I decided to have a a go at it.

I'm using speedtest.net app from the market place and these are the results that I got.

254kps down
460 kpbs up

using 3g with amazon mp3 removed.

Those results are very interesting. If it actually is 3G on the Epic, congratulations. The strange part is that I rarely (very rarely) see a higher upload speed than download and most of the time I discard it since it will be so far out of whack (like -0 to 70 down.)

Now to figure out what is different about your phone vs the rest of us. Are you rooted? What apps do you have installed? Do you ever use WIFI or 4G? Do you use GPS or BT? Do you use a task killer or any power manager like Juice Defender? ...

Re: 3G upload speed not exceeding 150k

I had removed NFL, Nascar, asphalt, amazon, myfiles.

I rooted using noobnl's one click + 1.30 kernel and I do not use any wifi or 4g at work.
I use GPS, turn off bt while at work (I rarely use it though), I just installed games so far.
No juice defender.

Weird...

I rooted (didn't want to, but would have been worth it if it fixed this issue) and removed the same apps you listed above. Still have the 150k limit. I went by another Sprint store. Tried the display model (same problem), two of the employees had Epic's and had not heard of this problem and did not believe it was real so I had them try it and same problem. They called their tech line and the tech line was useless and said it must be a network issue, even though the store Demo Evo and another one that another employee had were getting 650k to 800k uploads at the exact same time the Epic's were getting 150k.

Re: 3G upload speed not exceeding 150k

Wow, Sprint takes there sweet time in getting things done--don't they...

Over on the Sprint hosted communities this was posted yesterday:

Samsung Epic:3G Upload Capped?

' Sprint has two primary sections that issues are put into. It is all about specific wording.

There are "Known Issues", which are confirmed by Sprint and the manufacturer. These are issue that are communicated widely and usually are covered under warranty. These usually have a known root cause and a fix may be planned.

Then there are "Investigations" these are issues that have had some reports, but have not been confirmed by Sprint or the manufacturer. This is where issues go first before being confirmed, a root cause found, and whether there will/will not be a fix from the manufacturer.

The particular issue being discussed here, upload speed limitations, has been reported to the device team and they are investigating it, but it is not considered a "known issue" yet. It is known to the device team, but hasn't gotten to the point where it can be considered a "known issue" yet."
'

Man, I just can't pick a fully functional phone without some major error(s) being found...
