Sprint Epic 4G - charges for tethering?

I come from the Touch Pro 2 which charges you for tethering by default unless you get a custom rom. The Epic has a built in Sprint tetherin app - will I get charged if i use this?

Re: Sprint Epic 4G - charges for tethering?

Built in tethering app requires PAM access, so Sprint will charge you for that to work.

PDANet and EasyTether are other options available in the market.

Is that the same thing as using it for a wifi hotspot?

On the tp2 you don't need a custom rom to tether without charges. I used both pdanet and usb modem without any charges ever. I also did the registry edit and used it that way and never got charged.
As for the epic, just like on the evo you can just use pdanet, easytether and other similar programs and not have to worry about being charged.

Re: Sprint Epic 4G - charges for tethering?

I have the Epic 4G and I have been useing the Sprint hotspot App many many times... I've not been charged for it at all.
used it for at least 3 months.
Is it that Sprint doesnt' notice?
My brother got the same phone as me yesterday and his hotspot doesn't work at all.
Did I fall through the cracks?

Wow, your lucky as it usually needs to be activated by Sprint. An easy workaround is called MobileAP which is the same App as Sprint Hotspot without Sprint branding and replaces Sprint hotspot.
