Re: 1-Click Root
I think its just a matter of try try again. I read all 22 pages of the XDA thread on the 1-click root and its full of problems - which operating system you have, which drivers to install, which usb port to use, getting the drivers to load correctly, etc etc. I just kept trying different combinations until it worked.
And you did help me...you reminded me to mount the SD card. |

Re: 1-Click Root
It took me a while to figure out the instructions from the first post. I'm guessing that the guy on XDA is from the Netherlands since his name is noobnl, but I think his day job might be writing Chinglish instructions for motherboard companies because about half the directions are missing and what is actually there is about as clear as Obama's job creation policies.
Anyway, for anyone attempting this, you need to follow these instructions: 1.) Download the Epic/Galaxy drivers that he has listed. If you don't know if you're on a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows install, then use your computer's Control Panel to find out. Click Start-ControlPanel and then in the search bar, type System. The first hit will be system, click that and on most Win installs, it will tell you if it's 32- or 64-bit. If it doesn't say, you are 99% probably on a 32-bit. 2.) Install the drivers on your Windows PC. 3.) On your Epic/Galaxy, go to Settings-Applications-Development and check the box for "USB Debugging" - for some phones, Settings is available from the Menu button on the main screen, but on Sprint's software, you need to go to Applications and in there you will find Settings...this is what tripped me up for a while because I couldn't figure out what the hell he was talking about. 4.) Plug your phone into the computer using the provided USB cable. The drivers on the computer did not successfully install the first time and just hung on installing the CDC device. If yours does this, simply unplug the phone and plug it back in - my computer then said that the driver installation was unsuccessful, but I was still able to root it. 5.) Download and unzip the "one-click root" file from the XDA site. 6.) In the directory from the previous step, double-click the "run.bat" file and follow the on-screen instructions that pop up and you should get rooted. It worked first time for me...once I figured out what the hell they were saying. I'm an embedded hardware and software engineer by profession, so I know if it wasn't clear to me, it sure wouldn't be clear to most people. Moreover, being an adjunct professor makes me want to explain the process so that everyone understands.

Here is a video on youtube someone made that makes it very easy to follow to root the Epic. Also the Wifi Tether work after root which is shown at the end of the video. I noticed that the Wifi Tether uses adhoc 802.11n, so if your pc/laptop cannot link up to "n" networks you will not see the signal, you can always go bluetooth.
