I think its just a matter of try try again. I read all 22 pages of the XDA thread on the 1-click root and its full of problems - which operating system you have, which drivers to install, which usb port to use, getting the drivers to load correctly, etc etc. I just kept trying different combinations until it worked.
And you did help me...you reminded me to mount the SD card.
