I was thinking the same thing. But it would be better to have it restricted somehow so that we don't demand excessive upload bandwidth from the PPCGeeks members. I can just imagine hordes of outsiders bogging down the regular user's internet connections.

The whole point of torrents is to offset that demand across multiple computers. Users can restrict how much bandwidth the torrent uses. It would still be good to have an ftp or something on the side for files that don't have alot of seeds. Maybe upload the torrent then 30 days later host the file on the ftp?

What I meant was that I don't want to see a lot of outside people just joining to get in on our trackers or having the torrent file posted on other sites.

In that case look at pleasuredome.org.uk and look how they use share ratios to make sure torrents stay seeded. Something like this would take lots of administration though.

The way I read your first reply to "brand" was that it would be an open tracker and not a members only tracker. Which would require alot less administration.

Allow only members with a certain number of posts the ability to upload files. But an open tracker would require the eventual hosting of the file on ftp because of the number of seed's going down over time.

How about a private tracker?! Saves the IP address to the user name. If it's not associated w/a member that has a minimum of lets say 50 posts then it will reject it. This way its from members, for members!

I would say open to all members but you can only upload to it after 50 posts. This would prevent someone using the tracker for none ppc related files.

If a new user had files that they needed uploaded they could ask a member with enough posts to upload it for them.

Agreed. That should keep things in balance

I hired a server management company, which should be having a look into our issues soon. I personally don't believe its the server. So we will see what they say. Hopefully its an easy fix!

Re: Site Problems Today 06/25/08

I ran into a little problem that I have been able to duplicate. Since last night when I upload a file to the ftp w/filezilla, when you download it I keep getting unexpected end of file error on the archive. I've tested the archive on my machine before uploading and after downloading. Seems the only way I have been able to get a file on the ftp is through the sites phpWebFTP4.0 program...I've duplicated this on 6-7 files (.5-3mb's) today. Make sure the server-geeks look into that as well. And be sure to give them a FREE membership to PPCGeeks!

Edit: Here is a sample...
