I don't know if it would hurt anything to switch it to mass storage, but I've always left it on activesync. Changing the connection settings in the PC activesync ensures that your computer won't be trying to connect to it.

Everything was going fine until it got to switching usb to phone. It couldn't find com 0 and the download failed. I had the usb plugged into the should I try one of the ports in the back?

Did you install the phone driver? I'm not sure if it's necessary or not, but I think I remember doing it way back when. Let me see if I can find it, then I'll post a link.

i know this may sound dumb but did you remember to turn your phone off then back on?

Yes I turned the phone off clicked detect plugged the usb in and then turned on. I was trying to find the verizon carrier cabs/roms to try and manually load it so I could atleast be able to dial out to *228. I'm having no luck finding anything.
