CF03 vs CC20

Now that the official release has been out for a while, has anyone found a compelling reason to upgrade from CC20? CC20 has been working fine for me, and I would hate to really start all over again unless there is really something incredibly worthwhile in the official release. Suggestions appreciated.

Re: CF03 vs CC20

aGPS is one reason. Also all of the new ROMs are based off of CF03, so if you ever plan on flashing one you'd have to run the upgrade first anyway.

On CC20, when you fire up google maps you get nothing til you get a hard lock. On CF03, before google maps even loads, it already has your general location to within ~1500 meters. That;s the difference.

If it isn't aGPS, then it's pretty clever programming that mimics it...

Nonono... that's not it! It's a secret smaller and more crappy GPS that THE MAN didn't want you to know about! It locks instantly but only gives you a general area. aGPS is a lie!!

Heh, well true GPS is always going to be better than aGPS. In actuality, I preferred CC20's lack of aGPS to CF03's present aGPS. Seems to make getting a lock slower for me...

Re: CF03 vs CC20

I've seen no benefit. I went from CC20 to CF03 and did not see any GPS lock improvement and lost the ability to use the 1% and 5% battery drivers (without experiencing excessive battery drain).

I upgraded to CF03 thinking that there were some underlying low level improvements that would improve hardware performance beyond unlocking the GPS and adding aGPS.

As far as aGPS is concerned, if it gives me an instant 1500m pinpoint, that's no benefit to me because I usually know my location to about that degree without a GPS. I can wait the extra 30 seconds for it to tell me where I am within 30m.

The loss of the 1% battery driver is my biggest regret.

I did go from 6.1 to 6.5 which I am glad I did. I like the 6.5 ROM better. I went from Adtynalyne's CC20 6.1 to CF03 6.5 Vanilla ROM.

Re: CF03 vs CC20

I've noticed my Battery life is not as good on CF03. My wife is still on CC20 and her battery last 2-3 days and mine dies in less than one day. I am not running anything that I was not running before.

Re: CF03 vs CC20

I felt much like you, Cbones. But I finally went CF03. I was happy with the CC20 ROM (running Adryn's win6.5) After the CF03 update, I went on the safe side with Adryn's version 2.0 vanilla. Very similar to what I had before. Not bleeding edge by PPC geeks standards, but just think back 6 months ago, we didn't even have CC20 yet!
So to help answer your question, CF03 is not any worse than what you have. But when the next big thing hits (trust me, any day now), you'll be ready!
