Question Flashing.....

I am not new to reading all the posts in here, but I am considering actually USING some of the advice given in here. First of all...some of you in here are pure genius! I guess if I had enough time and patience, I could have some of the knowledge. But, I don't.
So, I come to you now, in need of direction. I will need DETAILED instructions, the type that would be given to a person who has only had an i910 Omnia for a week or so, and no other smartphone experience. I WANT TO FLASH!!! I want to customize my phone, but I am TERRIFIED of "bricking" it. It almost seems like no big deal for most of you in here, which makes me confident that I could do it. Again, this is where I need the DETAILED direction.
I would need to know about which app to use for backup and how to do so, and everything involved thereafter. Also..which is the BEST rom to flash to? I am a moderate user, wanting alot of customization. I currently have, and love, SPB Mobile Shell 3. Google maps with a working internal GPS is necessary as well.
Im sure someone has already posted the detailed instructions already, but I cant find them. Can someone KINDLY take the time to instruct me....or give me the post that best shows how to safely flash.
THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HELP ME IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The post I have linked to has the tools you will need. The only other thing you'll have to do is download whichever ROM .bin file you prefer.

As far as a backup program, I use SPB Backup but I've heard good things about Resco as well. Just make sure that when you do backup before a flash, only backup the PIM data (contacts, tasks/appts, messages, emails, etc)

Re: Flashing.....

Thank you so much for the response. AS you can see...you are the only one to post a response..thanx again for that. About your post..in the instructions, it says some things I am confused about. It says "
Phone : SAMSUNG Mobile USB DRIVER(4.40.7.0) v1.6
where do I find this? And..do I install onto my i910 or on my pc?
Next step tells me "
After you install the driver of Samsung CDMA Modem, please restart a host computer.
where do i get this driver and what is the actual file name? And it says restart hostcomputer...so do i install this file on my pc?
and lastly..it says..
4. Click the "EBOOT+PDA+PHONE(+CSC)" button.
5. Select a Unified image file(*.img).
when I click the "eboot" button, does it open the box in which I select the ROM that I am flashing to?
Ialso noticed there was a newer version of the UMDL in the forum. Should I use it, or ONLY the ver 1.7 thast is listed in the instruction PDF?
Im sorry if I ask too much..I just don't wanna damage my phone. And I truly appreciate ANY help I get from y'all!!=D>

Re: Flashing.....

If you go to http://theidoctor.org/omnia.html, you'll find some of the stuff you are looking for. On the right side, there are some downloads. The bottom download is the Samsung i910 USB driver. You install these drivers on your computer. There is also a UMDL download you can use. The instructions above say click "Eboot....", but for the 2.3 version I was told to click on the PDA button and find the appropriate .bin file. Hope that helps.

Re: Flashing.....

Three more suggestions:

1. Go through your Omnia and write down any applications you've installed that you want to keep.
2. Set up a folder on your desktop, inside place the programs that you want to re-install as well as the ROM that you want to use. I have two sub-folders. One says Kitchen (for the up-daters and roms, the other says Apps - for the applications, ring-tones and wallpapers I want to re-install.
3. If you get into any trouble or have questions in the middle of things - don't go pushing buttons - post on this thread - someone will get to you soon.

Good Luck!

Re: Flashing.....

If you used the CD that came with your phone to initialize ActiveSync for your PC then you have the drivers already installed. If your PC recognizes your phone as a device when you plug it in then you have the drivers already installed.

I would advise you to use one of Adrynalyne's ROMs. BlazingWolf and Bgill55 also have good ROMs. You can find them in the Omnia Upgrades forum.

Yet another set of instructions written by Adrynalyne himself. Substitute CF03 for CC20 referenced in the instructions. They were written before CF03 was released.

Re: Flashing.....

Hello all -
I had held out and waiting for Verizon to release their ROM, which came out and I installed a few weeks ago. Now I am trying to figure out how I use two ROMs to achieve the best results. I have the functionality that was gained by the new Verizon CF03 ROM, but I want to have the junk programs like VZ Navigator that I'll never use removed to gain more usable memory. Is there a guide which shows how to use two ROMs like some of you have listed in your signatures? Seanasaur for example has the Verizon Beta & Adryn WM6.5 4.2 running. Also by doing this, which ROM takes priority? I have been reading these forums for some time and slowly wading into the water. I really appreciate everyone's help.

I think when you see something like the two ROMS they are really "extensions" for lack of a better word. What I mean by that is that in order to use "Adryn WM 6.5 4.2" you have to first flash to the Verizon Beta in order to be able to use the other. However, at any given time you only have one ROM on your phone (someone please correct me if I'm wrong here) so there isn't any issue of priority. Because you will be installing a ROM that comes from the CF03 ROM you recently flashed, you'll keep the functionality and gain the space. I will say that having the garbage VZ programs removed is quite nice and encourage you to flash to one of the available cooked ROMs.

Re: Flashing.....

So I just need to make sure the cooked ROM I choose is built on the CF03 / Verizon released ROM?
