Question Considering Upgrade to omnia from HTC vogue

Hello, I am considering upgrading my verizon phone from the HTC touch to a samsung omnia since it seems to have alot of power and features packed into it (Having a camera that doesn't suck would be great ). Anyways i use a custom rom on my touch and since they have been programing custom roms and settings for a while there are few nice ones that I may miss. Mainly now my gps is assisted and connects within 15 seconds. Is the omnia gps as responsive at this point or is it unassisted from the agps set up. I would appreciate any thoughts, or feelings on this possilbe upgrade idea. Thanks!!!

Your mileage may vary. My GPS takes 8 - 10 minutes to cold lock. Some people say they get a cold in 3 minutes. The new CF03 firmware does use aGPS thought.

Re: Considering Upgrade to omnia from HTC vogue

I was a touch user until a week ago when it went in the lake. I've played around with the diamond and just never liked it. I've been using the omnia for about a week and I like the touch a lot more...
The omnia isn't a bad phone, by any stretch, but it certainly is different. The default keyboard is way too tall. I've been using the qvga ezinput 2 that I had on the touch for weeks/months and it seems far less accurate on the omnia (I seem to fat-finger it a lot more than the touch). The d-pad is also weird. There aren't directional buttons, you swipe in the direction you want. It's ok, except for when you want to hold the button down for fast movement (going down menus and especially games). The screen resolution can be another problem. There are quite a few programs that don't work properly with the widescreen format (fpsece, a psx emulator, for example).
The gps works fine, although locking is a good chunk slower than I had with the touch (I don't think it takes 10 minutes, maybe 3). The camera is great, although it saves to DCIM and not date-time. There may be a registry hack for the dcim and there's a cracked .exe for the date-time, but no option in the settings is lame. The widescreen is great for watching movies, but tcmp 0.72 rc1 doesn't work with it. CorePlayer works, but it's a cost program. WMP and the touch player do play most of the files, though. I will say that it plays emulated games faster than any other phone I've used, and by a long shot.
Given your HTC heritage, one thing that you'll probably notice is the lack of ppckitchen. There is a small, custom, rom scene. I've not tried to make my own, as it's just too much work. There are some downloadable roms, but I've not been a fan of using someone else's customs. I'd rather make my own or run stock (I ran the official alltel on the diamond, as I just couldn't get tf3d working right on my own).
Wow, that was a lot longer than I anticipated, but I was in your shoes just a few weeks ago. I bought my omnia on ebay for $200 (maybe $250, I don't remember) and it was in prime condition. It came with an extra microsd card, covers, and all the accessories. I'm on alltel and haven't been able to get the data working, yet.
