On Google Maps, mine does similar things and also it will display that it's within 2500 meters, then 1000 meters, then 400 meters, then back to 2500 meters. If I hit the blue 'find me' dot two or three times, it moves around two or three times - sorta near where I am, but not quite.

Even if I get a lock down to 40 meters or so, after 3 minutes or so, it's back out to 2500 meters.

Sure. It's using the cell tower to give you an approximate location. Once you get a lock then it should stay close unless you lose it again which is what seems to be happening to you.

Well, I upgraded from your 1.3 ROM to your 1.4 MS3 ROM, and all's well. It's working like it should! Not sure if it was a bug in 1.3 or something goofy on my phone. I don't think I really changed much before, but who knows...

I've noticed quite a few people have been having problems with their GPS, I have too on occasion. It has been my experience that the GPS will function fine one day (using Google Maps or Live Search) and not be able to lock on any satellites the next. I've had this problem with two of Blazingwolf's ROMs and so far on one of Adrenalyne's ROMs. Soft reseting the phone does not appear to fix the problem when the phone 'chooses' not to lock. I should mention that agps does appear to work during these times. I've also used other GPS programs at these times, such as BeeLineGPS and amAzeGPS but they cannot lock on satellites either. What is so confounding is that if I do nothing the problem appears to resolve itself after a couple of days.

That's strange, i've never had problems with aGPS with google maps. I usually only test the real GPS while im at work, a golf course, and I always get a lock (eventually). I believe that all the gps problems are location based. Definatly not ROM issues. Our GPS chip is not that great. Samsung probably didn't expect Verizon to unlock it.
