Well I kinda ripped apart the app, I know it comes from http://www.avaricum.net/ and downloads stuff like http://gllto.glpals.com/7day/latest/svstatus.txt but I can't find where on the phone it saves the data to. It refers to things like \Application Data\Global Locate\Lto Manager\NtpList.txt but I don't see it on my phone anywhere. Dunno if any of this helps.

Re: (Possibly) Working aGPS Solution!

I still haven't been able to get a lock -- at all

Location ON is enabled
Using q-gps in GoogleMaps
tried with g-maps set to allow windows, as well as the 8/57600 combination

Everything hits the Weak GPS signal message I guess I should try somewhere else, but there are trees and power lines all around here. Am I doing something wrong, or is it just weak signal?

Re: (Possibly) Working aGPS Solution!

the first time i tried after flashing to the newest ad rom i was able to get the quick gps to work for me. subsequently i have not had any success so i believe it has to do a lot with the weather conditions. hope aGPS fix comes out shortly though and permanently allows us to use our handsets like they were meant to be from the start.

Re: (Possibly) Working aGPS Solution!

Wozzers 6.5 ROM...never once got a gps lock or connection to 1 satellite. I repeated all the directions but yea... I live in Las Vegas for the moment, and I just don't get why it wont work. Should I reflash my phone to another or same ROM? BTW your still da mannn! I still love my phone because you guys are so sick wit it but I really wish my gps would work, oh and another quick question, does it matter where you install the cabs? Both my Gmap and Q-GPS are in my storage. Thanks for the help guys

As others have said, I wouldn't hold your breath. I think the original email several months ago from Steven Schwed at VZW was the first "semi-official" notice we had re. Verizon's plans to unlock the GPS via a ROM update in the "first half of 2009".

I don't have his email in front of me, but basically Steven said that they would be opening up the unassisted GPS to third-party software, while continuing to provide their own (proprietary) products to leverage aGPS with the proper security, etc. In other words, if you want aGPS, you pay $10/month and suffer with the lousy VZ Navigator (or whatever they might come up with to replace it).

Does anyone have Steven's email handy to confirm exactly what he said?

Re: (Possibly) Working aGPS Solution!

I went to Key West today, and my gps worked almost everywhere. It took a while to connect, on average about 2 minutes, but this is coming from someone who could not get ANY connection before, almost anywhere. It would just run and run until finally I would get the Weak GPS Signal message. I dont give a crap about the official update to be honest with you, what do you guys think it will have the cooks here havent already come up with?

I hate to repeat what Rvonder just said, but it's worth repeating: I doubt Verizon is going to do any gps "assisting" for any app that isn't there own. And unless they totally revamp VZnav and make it like google maps, there is no difference. Especially now that VZnav works on all the new ROMS, it's the best of both worlds to me. You have the reliability of assisted gps if you really need it (for a price, of course) and the extra features and choice of whatever other gps app you want to use...
