Question omnia memory leak survey

hey ya'll

i have been watching my omnia drop ram all day long, some gets recovered through using ram cleaner. i have been using the mem hog cab as well, and that seems to slow it down some but does not cure it.

so here are my questions:
from doing a soft reset as a baseline, how much program ram drops off your phone over the course of a normal day?

secondly,
what tricks or programs are you using to minimize the leaks?

i understand that leaks are inevitable, but i don't really have a baseline to judge if mine is excessive or not.

this exercise is no refection on how the roms tested works, it is just a measure of leakage on a daily basis.

thanks for your help!!!!

and so wraps up my leak testing. as you can see from the results, it appears that a m2d rom seems the least leaky of all the rom's tested.
which is good news for me, seeing how m2d is my own preferred interface.
a stock or vanilla rom appears to leak more over from the space of a day, more than likely from more programs making more demands over time.

i don't really know what to say about the mem hog cab at this point, aside of my observation that while with or without the cab, the end result of leakage remains the same. except the rate of leakage slows down in the beginning of the day, rather than just dumping the ram and staying the same for the rest of the day.

i know that the ti interface is all the rage right now, but for myself, i like my screen clean, which is why i kept the original sammy interface for as long as i did. it was one of the reasons i was stoked about the neo rom from blazingwolf. i liked it a lot as i did the last bgill ti interface rom, but in the end, for me, i am still a m2d guy.

i tried to keep the playing field even by keeping all the same programs in each test. and i am not what you would call a super power user in the sense that most of you are. i don't store music on the phone, as i have a zune for playing tunes at work. i do some surfing everyday, and gps is not an issue for me unless i am off puttering about in unfamiliar territory.

anyway i hope what i have gleaned from doing this has been useful to someone, and if you have a combination that leaks less feel free to post it here!!!

Re: omnia memory leak survey

The biggest culprit of memory leaks is gwes.exe. This is the graphics routine and allows you to have all of the pretty things on the today screen and start menu, etc.

Not long ago I read about an experiment a person did to have an extremely basic start menu (no nested folders, etc) and it cut his memory loss by quite a bit. He also used a file explorer set up the way he wanted.

Re: omnia memory leak survey

Tried different combinations. Running Adryn' 3.9 ROM. after soft reset, 57Mb of remaining memory. Each time I opened WMP, I dropped 2.5Mb and did not get back. After messaging ran to check my e-mails, lost 4 to 6MB, even though I have My Storage set as the e-mail cache. After I run Clean Temp, still the same, no gain. I will change from 57Mb of spare to 35Mb spare in a normal day. Will lose 22Mb ? and then do a soft reset to get back.

when you opened wmp, when you closed it did you go to taskmanager and kill the process?

Re: omnia memory leak survey

The WMP reg hack is included in 3.9.

Gwes is the main issue really. Every 6.5 user is suffering from it, except maybe (just maybe) the lucky ones using native 6.5 kernels. it sounds stupid but I set cleanram to reboot me every 12 hours to regain what gwes takes.

cleanram must now be downloaded separately. Too many people breaking their OSes with it, so its not cooked in

i don't disagree, i am just wanting to see what different combinations of the items will do.
my testing shows the same leak with or without the caulkins, but the leak is much slower during the day with it than without.
my ocd with the leak comes from back in the 286 days where we scrapped for every bit of memory we could, because a 64mb stick was like $100.00 (used)
i don't get how people are breaking stuff, but that's just me i guess, and i don't keep a rom on long enough to build the exception list to go to level 3 cleanings all the time.

MEM leak test for bgill55 6.5 v2.4

I am using taskbar elite, fabi five 0 (police :P ) pimbackup, vvm and thats it... i have 500 mp3's, 8 mp4 movies, and a divix that plays for some reason

This is a little example of todays test... way to much to type... i have mechanic hands..they dont like to bend well
Every hour i had atleast one txt and 2 calls... and 10 min of wmp running... extras are noted in appr time slot..
all WMP events were stoped using menu/stop... then X...then htc to kill (HTC im talkn about is built in killer in upper right corner)... i am just starting to do power on tests and tracing the leak... but i agree with godwaker/bw on the findings so far...

this is info from the usage screen from htc tab..then hitting the mem icon
first "set" of numbers is storage
second "set" is program
"set"= xx.xx/xxx.xx
last 2 numbers after the sets are % in htc tab
12:59 power on....
1pm 19.44/113.74 33.25/56.84 37%
2pm 19.44/113.74 40.80/49.29 46%
3pm 19.44/113.74 39.07/51.02 44%
4pm " " 39.81/50.28 45% brdbandon
5pm " " 39.80/50.29 45% nobrdbnd
6pm 19.45/113.73 39.71/50.38 44% vvm/brdbnd
6:30 19.45/113.73 39.58/50.51 44% nobrdbnd
7pm 19.46/113.72 40.13/49.16 45
7:30 soft rest..then power off after boot...
7:45 power on
7:46 19.44/113.73 33.63/56.46 38

Total loss was 7mb and sum change in 7hrs ...

I have no other app killers at all.. the above installed were only addition to the 2.4 rom

as soon as i finish my power on test and trace. i will have the results.. i have league softball tonite and bar hopping after that... so maybe sat after noon ill have time to type it out..
