Canada i910 Question

So I have the i910 VZW running CC20 ROM and I am in Vancouver Canada. I have Garmin XT GPS installed and want to use the GPS program for getting around in my Car. But everytime i switch the Phone connection off, I can't seem to use the GPS, Should it be like this, because I don't want the Data connection or Phone connection on, as TXT's and Calls, and Data costs a fortune from here.

Is there a way of making this work, with GCz too, as i have some Caches to find using Cords.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Canada i910 Question

I'm pretty sure the gps uses the cellular connection to ping off the the towers, i don't if the i910 uses the data connection (aGPS). you are most likely going to have to leave the phone on. The data connection i'm not sure. on htc devices it uses data and cellular.

Re: Canada i910 Question

No.

Omnia GPS does not rely on cell towers whatsoever. However, when you shut off the phone portion of the device, its powering off the GPS portion too, hence the dependency on each other.

Re: Canada i910 Question

I haven't looked but there might be a "Do Not Roam" setting somewhere. I just installed a new battery and it's in a complicated discharge mode I don't want to interrupt. Don't most phones allow you to not roam?

From Omniauser.pdf:

To change your Roaming option:
1. From the Today screen, tap the right soft key function Main
Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Phone ➔ Services tab ➔Networks.
2. Tap the Change Setting button and from the Phone - Networks screen make your System Selection and Time
Setting changes.
• Home only: Your phone is available for normal operation only in the designated coverage area.
• Automatic: The preferred roaming list is used to acquire service. If no preferred systems are found, any digital “Automatic A” or “Automatic B” system is acquired.

The above may have changed slightly from BJ28 but it should allow you to use the GPS radio and not roam.

For some reason I can't edit the above post.

Set your phone to Home Only. That should fix you up.
