GPS settings following upgrade... what's BEST?

Greetings, all. Like MANY of our brethren, I wasn't going to wait any longer and suffer any further excuses from Verizon tech support personnel - who are even MORE in the dark than we are... when it comes to the issue of "upgrade". So... I did the initial upgrade to the CC20 ROM. I was not able to get the GPS to work, though. I read that there is a setting... something about 9600 Baud, but "lost" the page I was on... and can't seem to find just where it was.

To cut to the chase, what is the best Baud Rate and Com Port setting...?? Anyone have any CONTINUED success with this...?!

Re: GPS settings following upgrade... what's BEST?

Generally, COM8 and 57600 baud seem to work with most applications...and don't forget to go to Settings/Personal/Phone, select Services, highlight "GPS", and make sure that "Location On" is selected.

I've found these settings to work with Google Maps, GCZ, and Garmin Mobile XT.

FWIW, sometimes it seems to help (even if you currently have "Location On" selected") to go to Settings/Personal/Phone, select Services, highlight "GPS", check "911 only", exit Phone Settings, then go back into Phone settings and check "Location On" again. Or maybe I'm just imagining it...

Re: GPS settings following upgrade... what's BEST?

I had problems getting the gps to work for a while. It works now pretty much, but it can sometimes take forever to get a lock, and it's especially hard to get when Im driving, I guess since Im moving too much.

Anyway, this is what I have on my phone, Im not sure if they are all necessary, but it just happened to be what worked for me. I unlocked the GPS Settings by doing the registry hack (I will post a link to how to do it in a sec, in case you dont know). Once the settings are unlocked, put the GPS program port to COM 8, GPS Hardware port to None, Baud Rate to 4800, and check off Manage GPS automatically. I also installed GPS Gate, a program that I dont even know exactly what it does, but it seemed to help so I bought it, it was like 20 bucks. Ih GPSgate, i have the settings to COM 8, Baud 57600. Last but not least, I have Google Maps, and the settings in Google Maps are COM 8 and Baud 57600.

I know it seems like a lot of crap, but not too long ago I was making the same posts you are now, wondering why the heck my GPS isnt working when everyone else's seems to. Let me know if you have any questions

Re: GPS settings following upgrade... what's BEST?

com 8 57600 is the most common way that i've seen (if not just because it was one of the first ones to hit the thread when cc20 first came out and thus reciprocated over and over), but to be honest, some times that works, sometimes managed by windows works better... I don't know for the most part if one way is the "right way", but I guess use what ever *seems* to work best by playing with it?
