Any Omnia pro's got new user tips? i910

First off Hi, hola, o/ <--wave

Second I did a forum search for "new" and "advice" in omnia threads, I got no post's matching these. So if there is already a post about this please push/prod/kick me in the right direction & accept my apology for cluttering.

...and finally to my inquiry, I just got this phone(i910 verizon) last week- I think it's pretty cool and I am doing basic stuff (internet, notes, schedule, etc.). Now lets put this into perspective I work EMS so I'm not really all that needful of "office type apps" (epochrates is my best friend). I would consider myself a media nut, meaning I get off on movies/music/pdf's w/e is new and "cool". I like having the coolest stuff on my devices (my psp has psptube, CFW, iso's & such, no I'm not a child)

I looked at the hack's tricks & tips thread-all very cool looking stuff but what I want to know is: from a pro's perspective, what are the must haves for this phone, should I use Today? Should I use a different OS(?) entirely, if so do I bother getting any apps right now. Is it even worth "buying apps" or does the community have everything to offer me "open ended"? What do the tech-savvy omnia users use all the time? What should I just steer clear of?

What do experienced users know now that they wish they knew when they got the phone & what toy's do they use now that they wish were using "way back when"?

sorry for the long winded post-wall of text...

Things to steer clear of:

Flashing cooked roms. You will need intense shock therapy to be able to break the addiction, and even then, you will never be the same.

Although, its hypocritical of me to mention this, as I am a rom pusher.

AMEN Brother. I think I have flashed at least once a day for the last um.....three weeks. Going through withdrawls, I think I need to go prepare for my therapy class. When is the next Session of FA again?

Re: Any Omnia pro's got new user tips? i910

There's a number of threads here and elsewhere that offer up the opening "tweaks" and optimizations for the newcomer...

Besides the highly-addictive ROM flashing, there's the hacks/tips/tricks thread... well worth a thorough read, whether you flash a custom ROM or not...

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=51532

Some others:

http://www.samsung-omnia.org/how-to/..._next=next#new

Enjoy... I hope these help.

Thanks so much Jer & Thundercat & Adrynalyne I flashed my first rom today-it was too easy I had no prob's. Only thing I had to get over was the fear. Now I just gotta add all the cool stuff and call it a wrap.

So called "normal people" can flash with impunity. Some of us became addicted during the first flash. Most all heavy flashers will become addicted, chasing that epinephrine rush produced by the adrenal glands when flashing.

It's so bad for me I just backed up all my cabs, formatted My Storage and µSDHC and then flashed the same Adrynalyne WM6.5 V3.6 ROM.

I didn't really need to. Had a small glitch with G-Alarm and Etiquette mode. "AHA" I said to myself, "Flashing will take care of that one!"

So many ROMS. So little time.

Ted

Re: Any Omnia pro's got new user tips? i910

Must haves
  1. Adrynslynes rom
  2. HTC Home (some like manila, i use xplode HTC Home
  3. and Emunutz Home Customizer)
  4. AEB Plus (I could not own the omnia without this)
    My AEB config (partial)
    1. talk
    2. one press = green (ie unchanged)
    3. two presses = start menu
    4. three presses = today screen
    5. held = chgfingermouse (see next app)
    6. end
    7. one press = red (ie unchanged)
    8. two presses = ok/minimise
    9. three presses = close current app
    10. held = unchanged
  5. chgfingermouse (changes d-pad to mouse and back)
  6. resco explorer/ftp/registry
  7. conduit pocket player (awesome player with
  8. bluetooth sound diversion)
  9. task facade (task switcher aka alt tab)
  10. SBSH Calendar Touch
  11. XDA 1minute GPRS fix

Other Apps i like
  1. adobe PDF DIAMOND VERSION (others seem to have issues)
  2. WMWifi Router
  3. Conduits Pocket Artist
  4. Live Search
  5. Google Maps
  6. PDA Corner Office (DO NOT use the Adobe reader with this)
  7. iContact

That about sums it up.

As for all the flash-o-holics...

Stop using back up software. Having to reconfigure every reflash tempers the urge quite easily
