Im just now learning here...

Okay, so my first PPC was the HTC XV6800 that I bought from some guy offline. Phone was great but I had no idea what a "PPC" was until I got into it.
Then I upgraded to the Omnia i910 (which I love this phone.) Just installed the SPB Shell 3.0 and IT'S LOVELY!! So here I am back at the table of intelligence(you guys) to ask my first "noob" question:

What are "cooked ROMs", what do they do for your phone, and/or where do you get them/install them??

they are the software that runs the phone. They free up space in your phone and get rid of all the crap verizon puts in there. Plus they usually add in a bunch of nice features that you would usually put in yourself.

Re: Im just now learning here...

to also touch on what omega ra said......

cooked roms are exactly what he mentioned. it is a custom os install that takes away the bloatware and installs nice features, frees up memory, and unlocks things like the gps feature that our phones have.

now to get the roms, you'll need the unofficial rom, then go with one of the roms that the cooks in here have put together in their kitchen, and you'll be all set.

if there's anything else, please don't hesitate to ask. someone is always around to help. that's what's so great about this site! happy reading and enjoy.

Re: Im just now learning here...

Ah ha. I see now. Cool.
Last question. Now everywhere or in almost every forum here, I see that you need to "backup" your phone before doing anything. The one backup software that i've seen so far was from SPB but they want like $20 for it. Will I have to pay for any backup softwares for my phone wherever I go/get it from??

Re: Im just now learning here...

jville...

here's the link over at modaco... i used these instructions, rom, and umdl.

http://www.modaco.com/content/i910-s...or-omnia-i910/

for backup, i use resco. i've heard that spb is good, but i haven't tried it. download the trial version of each and see which one ya like.

do you have a memory card installed on your phone?
