Solved: No Hard Reset

I have an i910 activated 17 Feb. After running WMWifiCleaner to remove remnants of WMWifiRouter it will no longer Hard Reset. After a couple of hours on the phone with Customer Service and Tech Support they sent a replacement received last night 22 Apr.

Both my phone and the replacement (FRU) will not Hard Reset via Call/End/Reset buttons. They merely boot back to WM6.1. They apparently do not recognize that Call and End buttons are held down when reset is pressed. Settings/System Hard Reset works on my phone; it doesn't on the FRU (unknown Device Lock Code).

My phone used to Hard Reset every time I asked it to. Before I call Tech Support again, has anyone else run into this problem?

BTW, I do know how to Hard Reset.

EDIT: Solution is to press only the outside edges (ends) of the Call/End buttons. Pressing the middle of the buttons will flex the case and cause the center Navigation button to also make contact, negating the call for a Hard Reset.

Thanks to dwallersv at Modaco for the correct way to push buttons.

Ted

The "unknown device lock code" should be the last 4 digits of your number.

I haven't activated the FRU yet, and won't until I resolve the HR problem. I may have to take my phone (and the FRU) to a VZW store to prove to Tech Support that it will not reset.

I tested the FRU by installing .Net CF 3.5, then attempting a Hard Reset. The button method just booted to WM6.1. I'm stonewalled by the lack of an unactivated lock code for the S/W method.

Re: No Hard Reset

Are you holding the send and end buttons after you release the soft reset button? I have run in to this a couple of times with my phone and I make sure that I push the end and send keys before doing the reset and then holding it after I release the reset button.

I have performed many hard resets on my original phone. Not to be ungrateful, but yes, I know the procedure. My original post stated as much.

I don't want to accept an FRU that won't do a Hard Reset. If an app or screen lock ever hangs, I'll have no way to get to the S/W HR screen. Flashing could work, I guess, but . . .

Strange, but when on the original trouble call with Tech Support, the tech was working on the identical problem with her phone.

What I said.

Thanks for the responses. Maybe someone, somewhere will come up with an answer.

Anyone else?

My apologies to you both. I guess I was lyin' to you. It seems you can't teach an old dog new tricks and expect him to remember them.

It took dwallersv at Modaco to tell me how to push buttons. (And I thought I could push anybody's buttons.)

The outside edges (or ends) of the Call and End buttons must be pushed, not the middles. If the middles of the buttons are pushed the center Navigation button also gets "pushed" due to case flex. With all three buttons making contact, the phone ignores the call for a Hard Reset.

If I wuz a drinkin' man, I'd go get drunk.

This is correct....when u do the hard reset thru start/settings/system

the device lock code, should be the last 4 digits of ur mobile number, unless u set some sort of unlock code of ur own...

the only other thing (which doesn't seem possible) is that u got a refurbished, or returned phone with some other number stored as the device lock code...

but if u found a way around it great...
