Re: Beta rom

Got this working on Vista (64bit even) by doing the following:

Used Mobile Device Center to backup contacts, notes, etc... If Mobile Device center doesn't work for you, then the UDML(sp?) won't either.

After backed up, turned OFF USB connections in Mobile device Center (The UDML uses the USB port and reboots the device multiple times, if Mobile Device Center is on, it will interrupt the UDML, which is why you turn off the USB for Mobile Device Center (or Active Sync on XP).

Unplugged Omnia.

Turned off Omnia.

Plugged Omnia Back in.

Ran UDML.

Selected the image file, and it automatically filled in the options for Phone, PDA, etc... Made sure Bootloaded and Initialize phone were unchecked.

Selected Detect.

Turned on Phone.

It detected the phone, updated the booter, reset the phone, updated the phone, reset it, pda, reset, etc... On final boot the UDML program said it was complete, and the phone booted to the windows 6.1 setup screen.

I didn't have to call VZW for reauthentication, and phone and data worked fine.

GPS wasn't working for GMaps so I did a *228, option 1, then a *228, option 2. Rebooted, and still wasn't working. Wondered if I was being too impatient, so I went outside and sat there for almost 10 minutes, but it found 5 sats and my position just fine. Used it this morning on the drive to work, and it was just like I had my old 6800 on the dash. Just with a wider screen. I am very happy.

Re: Beta rom

OK,

I took the Plunge last night (couldn't Resist) and have been configuring and re-installing ever since.

No problems so far. everything is working the way it should or better.

My only outstanding items are:

1) 5% Battery increments - I'm still getting 20% increments. Is there a setting I have to change somewhere that I overlooked?

2) GPS - I haven't been outside yet with enough time to test it.

3) Activesync - Before, Activesync would only start up on the phone when I plugged in the USB cable. I'd kill the task after I unplugged and it would stay off until I plugged in again. Now, with the new ROM, It keeps coming back OVER and OVER and OVER even though it's not plugged in. I know I can just tell Task Manager to ingore it and let it run, but just curious why the change.

4) One of my apps (ewallet). won't install. Claims it is not the correct version for this device. Not sure if my CAB file has gotten corrupted or if something is wrong. I have a backup version of the cab file somewhere. I will have to look for it it when I get home. it was installed and working fine before the ROM update.

5) Loving the popup keys and that the keyboard now works in googlemaps.

Still lots of new features to test. think I'm almost done configuring and installing

I am about at that point as well, but I got a couple hints over at Modeco and from tmellen as well that may change my luck later!!!

Thanks a lot, between your post and a post over at Modeco I think I may know the mistakes I made, and I will try to correct tonight!!

Now all I have to do is find out if SPB's full restores will work after flashing!!!

Re: Beta rom

Should I hard reset and then flash or will it work even with my current hacks/regedits?

Re: Beta rom

Well flashing a ROM pretty much wipes everything, so any reg hacks/tweaks will be over-written. I have seen in a few threads where a hard reset is not neccesary, but I am thinking at least for Vista that it is, it is one of the two things that were suggested to me today that I didn't do.

So basically, I would say do a hard reset anyway (only device, you can leave the My Memory alone) as flashing will over-write everything.

Re: Beta rom

The battery increments are by default. No way to change it, thats coded into the driver.

Check your battery life with Main Menu> Settings. I've not tried other apps.

Note, like other battery drivers, more precise increments does not increase accuracy. Point in case, this was borderline; first reading said 80%, second said 85%. So it rounds up or down, depending.
