Ringtones/Notifications not working

For some reason none of my notifications are working (SMS, email, ringtones, etc.) I haven't deleted anything (knowingly) that could cause this problem. all of the wma & wav files are still there and working just fine in the media players.
When I try and play the ringtone in Settings it says
"Ring Tone Error: This ring tone file is corrupted or unavailable. Please choose a different ring tone."

Anyone know what is causing this?

I'd prefer to not have to do a hard reset if at all possible so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

I ran across something similar with data files I generate with a capacity/energy eval program. My solution was to move the files to another drive (in my case from card to My Storage) then they worked. I moved the files back to the card and they still worked. I can not think of why this happened but the solution wasn't too troublesome. Give it a shot.

I tried that. Didn't work so I just gave up and gave it a hardie.

Where on your device are you storing them? Default location is usually \My Documents

My mp3 ringtone was on my SD card but the notification sounds (new SMS, etc) were in the Windows folder on My Device.
