Ringtones/Notifications not working

For some reason none of my notifications are working (SMS, email, ringtones, etc.) I haven't deleted anything (knowingly) that could cause this problem. all of the wma & wav files are still there and working just fine in the media players.
When I try and play the ringtone in Settings it says
"Ring Tone Error: This ring tone file is corrupted or unavailable. Please choose a different ring tone."

Anyone know what is causing this?
