Getting email and turning off broadband
I just got an Omnia last week and am still trying to figure everything out. For the first few days, I could not figure out why my battery was constantly so low. I'd charge it to 100, and not too much later I'd surf the web some and I'd notice it was at 50% or lower. I think I figured out the problem, I noticed several times that the wireless status had broadband as connected for hours on end. I'd hit disconnect, only to find it reconnected later. I had my email set to check email every 15 minutes. I set that to an hour. Same problem. I'd look at the wireless and notice brodband has been connected for hours. I set it to manually connect and the problem has gone away. So I'm pretty sure thats it.
How can I fix this? I want it to grab my email, but not leave the connection open and drain my battery. |

I think you will find that checking your email every 15 minutes is a bigger detriment to the battery than the EVDO connection staying on.
That said, if you want a timeout, its as simple as a registry edit. I've taken the liberty of making two cabs to do it for you. One for 1 minute timeout when idle, one will timeout after 3 minutes. If you have any apps keeping the connection active, like a browser, it will not disconnect. |
Re: Getting email and turning off broadband
I'll give it a try, thanks! Ever since I turned it off and am connecting manually my battery has been excellent. I don't know what else could have been draining it.

So, I've had push email (Microsoft exchange) active since I got my Omnia. My battery usually lasts a day (sometimes I have to charge it in the evening). I went into Activesync and noticed that my schedule was to sync "As items arrive". If I change it to sync "Every 5 minutes" will my battery last a lot longer? |

Well, people report positive experiences with this hack, so enjoy :) Report back and let us know!

Probably, yeah. Push email is the devil. Since I've been setting my email to hourly, its incredible. Not terribly practical for the "connected" individual though. |
Re: Getting email and turning off broadband
True, but there is not a big sacrifice at 5 min. Ill let you know how my battery fairs.

Re: Getting email and turning off broadband
After extracting the file do you see a file with file type "cab"? If you do, click on that file to run and follow the prompts, this will load the program on the device. Good luck.

Re: Getting email and turning off broadband
So this program will cut of the internet if no app is open after 3 mins? awsome will have to get this then, so annoying to keep cutting it off manually.
Thanks |
