Theres hope for custom ROMs without waiting for Verizon!

Looks like another North American CDMA carrier is getting our beloved Omnia!

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/...mnia-in-april/

Maybe THEY will provide better ROM support for their customers and we can finally unleash our phones like the folks on the other side of the pond can!

Nice! Thanks for the post. I am getting this phone soon and am hesitating only because of the GPS.

Re: Theres hope for custom ROMs without waiting for Verizon!

Cool....you had to know it was only a matter of time before other carriers would pick-up the Omnia!! It is a really great device!! I haven't thought twice about it in the 4 months I have had it!!!

Not really sure how that will improve our chances of a faster packaged ROM release, If it isn't released until April with Bell, that only gives them a couple months to release an update before VZW's promissed date (but I guess you can never tell)!!!

One side-note of possible hope though; In the write-up, they blatently advertize GPS....not the ability to use a GPS App (like VZNav), so I am thinking even if an update does not come out, it may be able to extract the settings/files needed to activate it in the VZW models. I know in the earlyier attempts at unlocking GPS they tried looking into the i900, but the differences between the i900 and our i910's were too vast to be compatible. Maybe this will change that!!!!

P.S. Thanks for the heads-up!!!

This was my thoughts EXACTLY. I can't see them being as different than the i900 vs. i910! So, maybe we can get folks up north to join our fight eh?

Not so sure they would need to 'join' our fight as much as 'assist' it with sharing of files/info/settings!! If it were a GSM carrier I would be doubtful (since the i900 is GSM) but with the carrier being CDMA, I think it is very hopefull!!!!

Yeah, I'm curious about this too. I haven't seen anything that says that Sprint will have the Omnia. I have seen the Samsung Dash but not the Omnia.

I'm hesitating for the same reason. First post, been a forum lurker for a long time. I have an external bluetooth GPS that I can use (for my Dell Axim) but would rather not carry it around.

yea this is erroneous information, I checked all the major WM news sites, Engadget, gizmodo, phonearena, WMexperts, boy genius, none of them mention an Omnia of any kind going to sprint....there is a Samsung M810 which is the Instinct mini, but not an Omnia....

I don't think sprint will see the Omnia this year....if at all...
