Got the phone back up, but...

Ok, so I crashed my phone Friday. Finally got it back up and restored. But, a couple of things...

I use SPB Backup, and everything restored perfectly with the exception of SMS and MMS messages. Is that normal? It's not a big deal for me really, but I can see how that could be a disaster for some.

Also, I want to reset my phone and selectively reinstall the software I have on it to try and solve my memory problems. The only thing I want to restore is my contacts. Can SPB Backup do contacts only? I can't find the area contacts are in to do that.

Re: Got the phone back up, but...

Fire up SPB Backup, select Custom Backup, choose only the top checkbox which is PIM Data (contacts, appointments, etc).

As a secondary backup option you can also go and get PIM Backup (free application) at http://www.dotfred.net/default.htm and use that in conjunction with SPB Backup (if you fear one backup might get corrupted somehow).

Re: Got the phone back up, but...

I don't know why the PIM info wasn't in your full (it was a full backup....right?) backup, but Veritech_910 is right on the money with that post. A neat little trick you can do is to save your backup onto your PC and use the unpacker to open it up on the PC and go through the backup file and confirm things are there.

PIMBackup is a good safety net to having an SPB backup, but unless you have an error show after the backup, it is usually a good one (never hurts to play it safe though).

Re: Got the phone back up, but...

I am about to dump SPB backup. Thus far, it has caused me to have to totally reinstall stuff twice due to it not being able to properly restore my backup.

Re: Got the phone back up, but...

Wow...that is the first I heard of that...have you tried RESCO? I have heard good things about that one. I'm not sure if Sprite works on the Omnia, but I know that is another of the big name ones.

Re: Got the phone back up, but...

I havent tried others yet. I thoiught it was a fluke, but then it did it to me again. It would backup, verify the file, and so forth. Then when I hard reset and went to restore it, it would give errors and only restore a half arsed backup.

I will try Resco next.

Re: Got the phone back up, but...

I wonder if there is an app or file in conflict with Backup. I know with the older versions backups would become gradually more + more unstable to restore because of new apps + tweaks would conflict with Backup. So I am wondering if your (great work of course) tweaks + modification of files/apps is causing a conflict with Backup. (AKA I wonder if more of this type of situations will come to light)

What version are you using? Are you doing a Full Backup? Are you getting any errors after the backup?
I have been using SPB Backup for years on various cellphones such as T-Mobile MDA, Wing and now I900 without any problems. The latest version is 2.0.1 Build 3092.
I have found that for the I9x0 you must Ignore File \POCKETFS.SYS. This is also suggested by SPB on their site.
Hope this helps others, too.
