HELP...Phone is bricked?

I was installing a new Today plug-in and now when my phone starts up is shows the sync screen with no writing and nothing works. It's like it's locked up, not really "bricked" so to speak.

I did a backup right before I installed the .cab (as I always do). I use SPB Backup. But, how do I restore the backup? When I connect the phone to the computer via USB, it doesn't show it as being connected. I pulled the memory card out and have the backup file on the computer but when I try to run it is says it is not a valid Win32 application.

Can anyone help me get my phone back?

Re: HELP...Phone is bricked?

Have you tried a manual hard-reset? That would be the first thing I would try.

Basically press + hold both call buttons (SEND + END) and then use the stylus to press the reset button. You hold the keys until the reset screen shows. (it is explained better + pictured on this site - about half-way down):

Re: HELP...Phone is bricked?

What do you get on your screen? Anything? Another thing I have seen in the past is to take the battery out for a while, and put it back in while keeping the buttons pressed.

How long have you had your Omnia? It may be due for a CS call!!!

Seems like I get different things on the screen after each startup. Sometimes it's the rotating Windows color wheel, until it quickly freezes. Others it is the ActiveSync screen with no writing on it. And sometimes it is a list of error notifications (I can't view any but the first one and I think it is usually calnot.exe).

I've had it since around mid-december. I called CS and they couldn't talk me through any fixes. Looks like I'll be making a trip to Verizon later this afternoon.

I would REALLY be freaking out if I hadn't had a backup. But, knowing that once I get it fixed (or a new phone) I can restore everything really puts me at ease. Now, instead of being super worried and upset, it's more of a headache knowing I'm without a phone, but no worries over the data.

Do I sound like a testimonial or what?

Re: HELP...Phone is bricked?

Trust me....if you did a search in here of all the posts I mentioned doing a backup in, you would be accusing ME of sounding like a testimonial!!!! I swear by a good backup app, and IMO you have the best!!!! Let us know how it goes, I agree a trip to the store is the best thing considering you tried calling CS and the normal fixes already!!

Re: HELP...Phone is bricked?

My fault...I thought I posted it in the OP.

It was a version of the HTC Home plug-in for the Today screen. I really like the plug-in and was trying to find a version that would allow me to remove some of the tabs.

It was HTC Home Plugin v2.1 (patched by N2A/Hermes brightness fix) found at pocketemu.com. If I had bothered to read some of the comments I would have seen that others had the same problem.
